Republican gubernatorial candidate Eddie Rispone has so far not agreed to participate in any run-off debates or forums with Governor Edwards before the November 16th election.  UL Lafayette Poli Sci Professor Pearson Cross says Rispone has the momentum and a finely crafted message that is working, so there’s little incentive for the candidate to participate.

The Sabine Parish coroner’s office has identified an Iowa (I-oh-way) man that died of severe head trauma in a hunting accident Sunday. Authorities say 53-year old Paul Landry was found at the foot of his deer stand. It appears he stumbled on a large tree stump while hunting and struck the lowest rung of his deer stand. The coroner’s office along with the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries are investigating the fatal accident.

The implosion of two cranes Sunday at the collapsed Hard Rock Hotel site went as well as expected according to New Orleans Fire Chief Tim McConnell.  One of the cranes impaled Rampart Street and did damaged a sewer line. The state’s latest tally of hepatitis A cases is up to just shy of 600, the highest case count in twenty years.  Louisiana Department of Health immunization director Dr. Frank Welch says those most at risk are those that have been homeless or have used injectable drugs over the last year. Immunizations can easily be obtained from pharmacies, doctors, federally qualified health centers, or public health units.

The Saints went into Chicago yesterday without Drew Brees, Alvin Kamara and Jared Cook and completely dominated the Bears, winning 36-25. Latavius Murray filled in very nicely for Kamara and rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns. The defense held the Bears to just four first downs through three quarters and Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns. Bridgewater is now 5-and-0 as the Saints starter…

New Orleans returns home next Sunday to host the suddenly hot Cardinals, who have won three in a row. The Cardinals beat the Giants 27-21 yesterday in New York. In the NFC South, the Falcons lost again, Rams beat Atlanta 37-10.

LSU had a season-low in points with 36 and total yards with 413 but it was another easy victory for the 2nd ranked Fighting Tigers as they defeated Mississippi State 36-13. Quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 327 yards and four touchdowns. He broke the Tigers single-season record for touchdowns thrown as he has 27. Burrow says the hard work in the offseason has led to what is already a record-breaking season…

There will be another Top 10 showdown in Tiger Stadium Saturday. In the latest A-P poll, Auburn is ranked 9th as the War Eagles are coming off a 51-10 win over Arkansas.

Speaking of blow outs, Appalachian State trounced ULM 52-7. Memphis also crushed Tulane 47-17, Louisiana Tech improved to 3-0 in Conference USA with 45-30 win over the Golden Eagles.

The state’s latest tally of hepatitis A cases is up to just shy of 600, the highest case count in twenty years.  It’s part of a larger nationwide outbreak.  Louisiana Department of Health immunization director Dr. Frank Welch says the state’s number of new cases appears to be slowing down.

The average number of cases each year in the state is 10 to 15 cases.  Livingston Parish has the largest concentration of cases with between 121 and 240 cases. East Baton Rouge and Ouachita parishes reported the second highest concentration.

Welch says those most at risk for the ailment are those that have been homeless or have used injectable drugs over the last year and says immunizations can easily be obtained from pharmacies, doctors, federally qualified health centers, or public health units.

Welch says the ailment, which is a highly contagious liver infection, can be spread easily through close contact, adding it is nothing to take lightly.

While having the vaccine is the best way to prevent catching hepatitis A, good hygiene including thoroughly washing hands is another recommendation in fighting back the epidemic.

A new poll shows Governor Edwards and Eddie Rispone tied at 47 percent ahead of the November 16th run-off election. Jeff Palermo has the story.

Reports say Pelicans rookie sensation Zion Williamson will miss the next several weeks after injuring his knee. That means Williamson is expected to miss the season opener in Toronto next Tuesday, and the team’s home opener against the Mavericks next Friday. Newly acquired forward Brandon Ingram is expected to fill in the missed minutes.

A Shreveport man accused of shooting two people, including a police officer, on the Grambling State campus is in custody. There were concerns the incident was the start of a mass shooting event on campus but State Police Trooper Michael Reichardt says this was just an isolated incident…

A poll shows Governor Edwards in a dead heat tie with Eddie Rispone 47 to 47 with less than a month until voters head to the polls. Edwards ended the primary with 47 percent of the vote, and We Ask America Pollster Andrew Weissert his lack of gains point towards a troubling sign that his support may be capped out.

We Ask America puts the Governor’s race run-off at a 47 to 47 percent dead heat between John Bel Edwards and Eddie Rispone. Pollster Andrew Weissert says Rispone’s campaign has to be happy with the results here. He says it didn’t take long for him to consolidate the GOP vote following the primary.

Rispone has a 49 percent favorability rating, and a 38 percent unfavorable rating with voters.

The unveiling of a monument to Lynyrd Skynyrd takes place Sunday in Gillsburg, MS, the site of the band’s 1977 plane crash.  Sunday marks the anniversary and President of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Monument Project Bobby McDaniel says they will recognize those impacted by the crash, including five survivors.
