A new independent poll shows Governor Edwards within striking distance of winning re-election without a run-off. The survey of 500 chronic voters conducted last week has Edwards at 47-percent, and Republican challengers Ralph Abraham at 24-percent and Eddie Rispone at 16-percent. Pollster Bernie Pinsonat conducted the survey

Pinsonat says 30-percent of white voters support Edwards, while 14-percent of whites are undecided.

A tropical wave is projected to move from south of Florida into the northeastern Gulf of Mexico by this weekend.  National Weather Service Slidell meteorologist Gavin Phillips says there is only a medium chance for development.

A fire truck that served in New York following 9/11 and New Orleans following Katrina is getting a new home with donations from the public. Kevin Barnhart has the story.

A Marksville police officer has been arrested for alleged illegally downloading personal data from a police database in Mansura and giving it to someone else for non-law enforcement purposes. 33-year-old Torrick Friels was charged with malfeasance and misuse of the database. State Police have not provided details of what data was retrieved. Friels is now out on bond.

State Fire Marshal Butch Browning is commemorating the anniversary of 9/11 by seeking donations to construct a museum to house the Spirit of Louisiana fire truck that was built by donations and sent to New York following the attacks.

The museum will be built next to a 9/11 memorial at the Fire Marshall’s office in Baton Rouge

Parents who have lost their driver’s license due to back child support payments only have three weeks left to correct the issue as part of the “On the Road Again” project. Department of Children and Families Regional Administrator for Child Support Enforcement Sandra Broussard says so far, the project has resulted in 140 people getting their license back.

If so it looks like it will move across South Florida and possibly into the Gulf. DCFS is offering a second chance for parents who’ve had their driver’s license revoked for back child support, but they only have three weeks.

The US Census says Louisiana’s Uninsured rate has dropped it’s at 8 percent while the national rate increased, it’s 8.9 percent. The Governor’s office that’s due to Medicaid expansion. 19-thousand fewer Louisianans were uninsured in 2018 compared to 2017.

A Haughton man has been arrested on charges that he had sexual relations with juveniles and solicited minors over the internet the past several years. Bossier sheriff’s spokesperson Bill Davis says the office is glad the victim came forward, and it’s important that law enforcement create a welcoming environment for juvenile victims. He says their work with the Gingerbread House is a good example.

A Haughton man has been arrested on charges that he had sexual relations with juveniles and solicited minors over the internet the past several years. 45-year-old Saunders King Jr. was suspected in a similar case involving a pre-teen in 2016 but was ultimately not arrested. Bossier Sheriff’s spokesperson Bill Davis says that all changed recently.

State Police arrested a part-time Mansura police officer Monday night who is also full-time Marksville police officer for malfeasance in office and misuse of the National Crime Information Center and Louisiana Law Enforcement Telecommunication System. Last month Louisiana State Police received a complaint that 33-year old Torrick Lavez Friels unlawfully accessed personal information about a subject and released it to a member of the public. It happened while he was on duty with the Mansura Police Department.

Former LSU gymnast Britney Taylor has accused New England Patriots wide receiver Antonio Brown of rape. Taylor is Brown’s former trainer and in a federal lawsuit, Taylor claims she was sexually assaulted three times over a two-year period. Brown stongly denies the accusations and he says the suit is motivated by money.

There’s now a Louisiana connection with all of the drama surrounding Patriots wide receiver Antonio Brown. Former LSU gymnast Britney Taylor claims in a federal civil lawsuit that Brown sexually assaulted her three times. Taylor is Brown’s former trainer and the two met while they attended Central Michigan. Taylor went on to compete at LSU in 2012 and 2013. Brown says the sexual relationship was consensual.

West Monroe Police say they have identified the two men accused of sparking a lockdown at West Monroe High on Tuesday. Police say a teacher saw the armed men at the school and alerted administration. Police, who were already on campus, quickly detained 57-year-old Matthew W. Hutson and 36-year-old Theodore Christopher Herr.

New Iberia Police have charged a 20-year-old man in last month’s shooting death of 17-year-old Garon Lewis, who was found dead in a vehicle at an intersection on August 16th. Captain John Babin says 20-year-old Trevonce Bernard was taken into police custody last night. The victim’s father Raymond Lewis, an Iberia Parish School Board member, and spoke at a press conference.

Ten inmates at David Wade Correctional Center in Homer suffered injuries after lightning strikes the field where they were playing flag football. Department of Corrections spokesperson Ken Pastorick says a weather event was closing in, but the flag football game was not called off because there were no signs of imminent danger.
