A Shreveport woman is charged with cruelty to a juvenile and two counts of insurance fraud after a bus accident where she intentionally injured her 23-month old child. State Police Trooper Brent Hardy says the arrest of 38-year-old Deidra Lee comes after an investigation into the incident that took place on a city bus.

Gas is down nearly ten cents a gallon over last month in Louisiana as the typical fall gas price reduction appears to be arriving a month early. The average for a gallon in Louisiana is 2.29 a gallon, down from 2.38 last month, and 2.64 this time last year.

The deadline to qualify to run for office in Louisiana was Thursday. Prominent Democrats steered clear of the statewide ballot despite the presence of a fairly popular governor. UL-Poli Sci Professor Pearson Cross says that’s an indictment against the state party.

The exception may be Attorney General Jeff Landry’s challenger, Ike Jackson Jr. who previously served as Assistant Attorney General of Louisiana.

The Louisiana Department of Health says now 450 cases of Hepatitis A have been confirmed as part of an ongoing outbreak in the state. LDH says five of those cases are unrelated to the current outbreak in the state and could be the result of infections happening outside of Louisiana. Of the outbreak 58-percent have been hospitalized with only one death reported. The majority of the cases are in Livingston and East Baton Rouge parishes

The New Orleans Saints set foot back on the field at the Mercedes Benz Superdome last night to take on the Minnesota Vikings in their preseason opener.  While the Saints came up short with a final score of 34-25, the game exhibited the talents of back up QB Teddy Bridgewater.  As expected, Bridgewater got plenty of snaps throughout the first half.  Bridgewater spoke in last night’s postgame press conference and says the game was a great learning experience.

Bridgewater threw for 14 completions.  Taysom Hill stepped in during the second half throwing 8 completions.

 

Les Miles opened up about the end of his tenure at LSU and the “heartbreak” of not getting his dream job as coach of the Michigan Wolverines. The Mad Hatter spoke with ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit about his time in coaching, and mentioned that even as far back as his National Championship winning year in 2007. While he pinned for the job though, he did add that the 2007 game allowed him to score a big win with LSU over hated rival Ohio State.

Major League Baseball announced it is going to play a professional game in Iowa, a first for that state…at the same field the movie Field of Dreams was filmed at.  A temporary 8000 seat ballpark will be constructed at the site where the 1989 classic sports flick was shot.  That game is set to take place August 13, 2020 between the Yankees and the White Sox.

Former LSU head coach Les Miles recently discussed what could have been if he had been offered his dream job as coach of the Michigan Wolverines. In an interview with ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit “The Mad Hatter” opened up about his time at LSU and even mentioned the 2007 National Championship. Miles said that victory did give him joy with LSU allowing him to score a win over one his old rivals Ohio State. He then said LSU was a “decent” job but in the end is upset that obstacles have kept him from heading home to Michigan.
