The crown jewel of LSU’s 2020 haul is undoubtedly the number one corner in America, California raised, and Louisiana linked Elias Ricks. Dixon says after locking in Derek Stingley Junior this year, stealing Ricks from the Golden State cements the team’s reputation as the new DBU.

Ricks’ father is a Bayou State native who imparted a love of Purple and Gold on his son from an early age.

LSU will bring a 21-4 record into tomorrow night’s game against Florida. The Tigers are tied with Tennessee for first place in the SEC and the Bayou Bengals will host the Vols on Saturday, but they can’t overlook Florida. The Gators are 6-and-6 in league play and have won two in a row, including an 18-point win over Alabama last time out. At this time, most NCAA bracket projections have the Tigers as a number three seed.

In college baseball today, LSU is hosing Southeastern Louisiana as we speak. McNeese is at Houston tonight. The game was originally scheduled for Joe Miller Ballpark in Lake Charles, but because of inclement weather, the contest was moved to Houston. The Cougars will travel to McNeese on March 19th.

Nicholls is also in action tonight as they host Alcorn State, Jackson State is at Grambling.

The Ragin Cajuns-Louisiana Tech game has been moved to tomorrow. LSU’s game at Northwestern State has been postponed to March 12th.

Reed is disappointed over last week’s arrest of nine LSU students suspected of hazing at fratnerity that’s since been closed.

A Gonzales man has been arrested and charged with his 3rd DWI following an overnight crash in Ascension Parish that left one dead. The head-on collision happened just before 11:30 last night when 28-year-old Greg Rivere was traveling eastbound on Highway 43. State Trooper Tayler Scrantz says for an unknown reason, Rivere crossed the center line, striking an oncoming vehicle.

30-year-old Daniel Cox of Prairieville was killed in the accident.

Higher Education Commissioner Kim Hunter Reed is keeping a close eye on the criminal investigation into alleged hazing at the LSU’s Delta Kappa Epsilon chapter that has so far resulted in nine arrests. Reed says the Board of Regents will use details gleaned from that investigation to sure up the state’s anti-hazing policy.

Several of the nine students charged in the alleged hazing have been hit with battery charges. The Advocate reports the hazing involved beating pledges with pipe, dousing them with gas, and urinating on them, among other things.

Reed says it’s vital the Board of Regents gathers this new information, and uses it to craft additional policies that can be applied statewide.

Last year the legislature passed harsher anti-hazing laws in the wake of the Max Grvuer’s 2017 death that allegedly resulted from hazing.

The Commissioner cautioned against demonizing all Greek organizations on state campuses, but says anti-hazing culture changes must involve with students in those groups.

A Gonzales man has been arrested and charged with his 3rd DWI following an overnight crash in Ascension Parish left one dead.  The head-on collision happened just before 11:30 last night when 28-year-old Greg Rivere was traveling eastbound on Highway 43.  Trooper Tayler Scrantz says for reasons still under investigation, Rivere crossed the center line, striking an oncoming vehicle.

Toxicology samples were taken from Rivere.  Scrantz says a 3rd DWI can carry a severe punishment in Louisiana.

Despite being buckled up, 30-year-old Daniel Cox of Prairieville was killed in the accident and Rivere’s passenger suffered injuries as well.  Scrantz says nearly half of the fatal crashes in the state involve inebriation and/or lack of proper restraints.

The four local commitments so far are receiver Kayshon Boutte from New Iberia, defensive tackle Jaquelin Joy from Baton Rouge, quarterback TJ Finley from Ponchatoula, and defensive tackle CamRon Jackson of Haynesville.

The Tigers unseated Saban’s Tide at the top after locking down four star Texas defensive end Alec Bryant. Dixon says it’s still early, but the LSU is certainly making an early statement in the Deep South recruiting arms race…

A 41-year-old Prairieville woman is lucky to be alive after State Police say a suspected drunk driver hit her vehicle in Garyville on Monday morning causing it to erupt in flames. Cell phone video shows four good Samaritans dragging her out as flames shot out of the back of the car. Police say 22-year-old Richard Preston hit her vehicle and he’s been arrested.

The state health department urges doctors to look out for measles cases in Louisiana. The C-D-C reports 101 cases of measles in 10 states, including Georgia and Texas. Assistant state health officer, Doctor Joseph Kanter, says most people are vaccinated against the highly contagious infection, but the small population of people who are not, are at risk…

According to 24-7 sports, LSU’s 2020 recruiting class is ranked number one in the country after receiving a commitment from four-star Texas defensive end Alec Bryant. Bryant is at Shadow Creek High in Pearland, Texas and this past season he recorded 18 tackles for a loss and eight sacks as his team finished as a state runner-up in Class 5-A. LSU’s 2020 class features 11 commitments, four of them are defensive linemen.

 

 

 

 

It’s one of those weeks you don’t want to be caught without your umbrella as the state is bracing for the impact of rain throughout the week.   State Climatologist Barry Keim notes there is a slight to marginal risk for severe weather, especially tonight and into tomorrow morning that includes severe thunderstorms, hail, and tornados.

Abraham report having 350-thousand dollars in the bank and Scott Wilfong said on Talk Louisiana with Jim Engster that will not get the job done…

Edwards reports having eight-point-four million dollars in the bank. A spokesperson for the Abraham campaign says they will have enough money to run a strong race.
