The Saints offense once again had a tough night, but New Orleans defense continues to play at a championship level as the Black and Gold found a way to beat Carolina 12-9 last night. Quarterback Drew Brees was 25 of 35 for 203 yards and one interception. Brees says they had chances to score more points, but penalties were a problem, they had nine of them. But he says in the end they made enough plays, especially in the fourth quarter to win…

LSU inside linebacker Devin White has been named the team’s M-V-P. He was given the Charles McClendon award at a ceremony last night at the Union Theatre. The Butkus Award winner led LSU in tackles this season and tackles for a loss.

In other college football news, last year’s number one recruiting prospect and now Georgia quarterback Justin Fields has reportedly told the Bulldogs he plans to transfer. Fields didn’t see a lot of snaps playing behind Jake Fromm this season.

Earlier this year, 8-year-old Drake Quibodeaux of Vinton was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.  When asked what he wanted for Christmas, he made a simple request for Christmas cards.  Now, the nation has responded to the 8-year-old, and his mother, Danielle, says the incoming show of support has been overwhelming.

Drake’s mother says only 5% of children diagnosed with his condition survive to a year and 1% to two years.  Drake just recently surpassed nine months since his diagnosis.

The mother says many of the Christmas cards are coming from recognizable names.

Quibodeaux says many of the cards contain money to help with medical expenses.

As part of the Republican tax reform package, the penalty for not having insurance was set to zero dollars.

Ciolino says the law has generated an interesting legal response, and the feds have decided not to defend it in court as a collection of state’s attorney generals have attacked it in court.

The Professor says the Justice Department’s refusal to defend the ACA in court has led to an unusual situation where a judge allowed non-parties to argue on behalf of the law. Ciolino says the lack of federal backing puts Obamacare’s legal defenders in a tough spot.

Supporters of the Affordable Care Act say this is a case that was already tried in 2012, when the US Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the mandate, calling it a tax.

State Police spokesperson Sergeant Jarden Sandifer credits the Special Victims Unit for putting an end to the disgusting crime.

21-year-old Shaena Kelly and 39-year-old Derrick Hall are facing child trafficking charges. Hall also faces a charge of Carnal Knowledge.

Authorities were tipped off by the St. Landry Parish Sherriff’s Office about the activities of the two New Iberia natives, and Sandifer says a subsequent investigation tracked their movements through several areas.

Sandifer says if you have any information about child trafficking, or are suspicious of activity that may be trafficking, you can either call LSP, or visit their website and file an anonymous report. The Sergeant has some advice for this holiday season.

Brennan Matherne says the suspects entered the garage wearing all black clothing and camouflage masks.

Brennan Matherne says the brothers have extensive criminal histories.  They are now being held at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux.

The Saints goal of capturing the top seed in the NFC playoffs got a little easier last night as the Eagles upset the Rams 30-23. So now New Orleans has to win two of its final three games to clinch the number one overall seed.

The Pelicans just can’t get on a roll. They beat Oklahoma City on Wednesday and then after three days off, they lost tot he Heat last night 102-96 last night. The 15-and-16 Pels are now getting ready for a four-game road trip that begins Wednesday night in Milwaukee.

After beating St. Mary’s 78-74 in Las Vegas on Saturday night, LSU will host 24th ranked Furman this Friday. The Tigers are 8-3 after beating the Gaels.

Tonight, Tulane hosts Texas Southern in the first ever meeting between the two schools on the hardwood. Southeastern Louisiana will take on California Baptist tonight in Hammond. Velma Jackson leads the Lions in scoring, averaging 16 points and eight rebounds a game.

LSU sophomore outfielder Daniel Cabrera was named a third-team Preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. Cabrera hit .315 last season with eight home runs and 54 RBIs.

A Youngsville man has been arrested after allegedly counterfeiting 100 dollars bills, and police say when caught, he hid the cash in pants and then later tried to dispose of the evidence in the cop car that was driving him to jail. Duson Police Chief Kip Judice says Stephen Young was initially caught after a tip from a local gas station casino who was suspicious of the cash. The Chief says after accepting the cash, the casino checked, and then double checked its validity.

The 29-year-old is facing several counts of Monetary Instrument Abuse, along with a charge of Obstruction of Justice.
