Meanwhile, Governor John Bel Edwards returns from Los Angeles today. Edwards was featured on a panel that also included reality television star Kim Kardashian West. And they were there for a discussion on criminal justice reform. The governor’s office says Edwards spoke about the progress Louisiana has made in this area.

US Representative Steve Scalise of Jefferson Parish has been elected as House Minority Whip for the next Congress. UL Lafayette Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says look for Scalise to work with Democrats on issues like coastal erosion and flood protection….

The Bureau of Economic Analysis has announced the Gross Domestic Product grew in Louisiana for the second quarter of 2018, making it the 12th fastest economic growth in the nation, and third among the 12 states of the southeastern region. LSU economist Loren Scott says the state’s percentage rate of growth just barely outpaces the national average.

Educational services and finance and insurance were the only sectors that fell in the second quarter.

We are a week away from Thanksgiving, a huge travel week, and the price at the gas pump continues to fall. Gas-Buddy-dot-com reports the statewide average for regular gasoline is $2.33. About five weeks, the statewide average was near 2.60. Now Gas-Buddy says there are dozens of stations selling gasoline for less than two-dollars a gallon.

Nicholls State can secure a share of the Southland Conference Championship and an automatic bid to the FCS playoffs tonight with a win over Southeastern Louisiana in the River Bell Classic. The Colonels have won three in a row and head coach Tim Rebowe says the keys tonight will be to win the turnover battle and not give up the big play….

Last night in college basketball, on the women’s side Louisiana Tech’s Kierra Anthony of New Iberia scored a school record 50 points as the Lady Techsters beat Houston in overtime 100-88.

We are seeing temperatures in the mid-to-upper 20s this morning for the northern half of the state. We are around the freezing mark in south Louisiana, but we’ll see high temperatures return to the 50s today.

Emery committed to Georgia during the summer, but de-committed 12 days later after watching the Tigers upset the Bulldogs in Death Valley.

Governor Edwards is criticizing a decision by interim Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin to publicly claim the former Mayor of New Roads “illegally cast his ballot” in the midterm election, when the Governor says further review showed Robert Myer was actually eligible to vote. Ardoin says he made that assertion after discovering Myer’s name was never added to the “can’t vote” list after his conviction in January.

Many residents in north central Louisiana woke up to snow falling and it goes down as the earliest accumulation of snowfall for that part of the state. National Weather Service Shreveport meteorologist Mario Valverde says this is the earliest Monroe has seen accumulating snow.

The previous record for earliest snowfall accumulation in Monroe was November 24, 1950.

New Orleans was the host city for WWE’s annual Wrestlemania event back in April, and now we know the economic impact.  It’s estimated that the over 78-thousand in attendance for the event at the Mercedes Benz Superdome contributed to a $175-million boom for the economy of the New Orleans region.  Lt. Louisiana’s Attorney General says he’s running for re-election, taking him out as a possible candidate to challenge for the Governor’s mansion next year.  Landry says he’s comfortable he can best serve the state by continuing in his current job.  When it comes to GOP contenders for the Governors election, Baton Rouge businessman Eddie Rispone has announced his entrance into the race, while Sen. John Kennedy says he’ll make his decision by December 1.

Five-star running back John Emery of Destrehan has made the decision to play college football in his home state and attend LSU once he graduates high school. The addition of Emery to the 2019 recruiting class moves LSU to fifth in the 24-7 sports team rankings. Tiger Rag Editor James Moran says the class is loaded with the state’s top players…

The early signing period in college football is December 19th to the 21st.

The Saints are getting ready to host the defending champs. It’s been a struggle for the Philadelphia Eagles, who have been hit with injuries, especially in the defensive secondary. Saints tackle Terron Armstead will reportedly miss the next three to four weeks because of a pectoral injury.

Louisiana Tech will bring a 7-3 record to Hattiesburg for Saturday’s game against Southern Miss. Coach Skip Holtz says he’s proud that his team has learned how to win football games, even if they have yet to fully click on offense…

Governor Edwards is criticizing a decision by interim Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin to publicly claim the former Mayor of New Roads “illegally cast his ballot” in the midterm election, when the Governor says further review showed Robert Myer was actually eligible to vote.  Myers finished his sentence for Malfeasance in July, but Ardoin says his office checked the record twice, and did not find Mr. Myer’s name on their felon list at any point, which caused issues.

Governor Edwards is out in California today for the Rolling Stone/Variety Summit on Criminal Justice Reform, where he’ll be on a panel discussing how Criminal Justice reforms are shaping up in Louisiana, and how successes in Louisiana can be used elsewhere. The summit hopes to use the power of entertainment to spread a pro-reform message across the country.
