Children who suffer from severe peanut allergies may be in luck after a study shows a new treatment can help mitigate the potentially deadly effects of accidental ingestion. LSU Health Allergy expert Dr. Kamboj says it’s not for light allergy sufferers, and you won’t be scarfing down PB&J’s, but, you might be able to eat something cooked in peanut oil.

The “Mad Hatter” has a five-year deal with the Kansas Jayhawks that will pay the 65-year-old two-point-seven million dollars a year. The former LSU head Coach Les Miles says after watching Kansas play Oklahoma this past weekend, he’s optimistic he can turn the Jayhawks into a winner quickly…

New Orleans will now get ready to host the Falcons on Thanksgiving Night. Atlanta has lost two in a row including a three-point decision to Dallas yesterday.

For a second consecutive season, Nicholls will host a first round F-C-S playoff game. The Colonels, who are co-champs of the Southland Conference, will face San Diego at 3 PM this Saturday at John L Guidry Stadium.

It’s Bayou Classic Week, Southern and Grambling meet on Saturday. The winner advances to the SWAC Championship game. Grambling has won three straight in the annual contest. Kick-off is at 4 PM.

LSU got its offense back on track versus a weak Rice Owls team as the Bayou Bengals had 552 yards of total offense in a 42-10 win. Quarterback Joe Burrow threw for a career-high 307 yards and two touchdowns. Coach Ed Orgeron says a good week of preparation led to good results…

LSU is at Texas A-and-M this Saturday. The Aggies have one of the top run defenses in college football.

And many would say that college football is better today now that Les Miles is coaching again. He was introduced yesterday as the new head coach at Kansas, which hasn’t had a winning season since 2008. But Miles is optimistic he can turn the Jayhawks into a winner quickly….

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office deputies are searching for 49-year-old Michael Vallery, who is wanted for stabbing and killing his wife Stefanie Vallery, 51, and injuring two of her relatives around 8 o’clock last night.  The incident happened at the wife’s home.  The two were separated at the time of the incident.  Deputies urge anyone who sees Vallery to not approach him and to immediately call 911.

 

Work continues during the lame duck session of Congress on approving a new Farm Bill, but work requirements for food stamp recipients continue to be a major stumbling block. Republican Representative Ralph Abraham from Richland Parish is pushing for work or educational requirements for able-bodied adults, but Democrats want to completely rewrite the bill.

Abraham is hopeful a new farm bill can be passed before Congress adjourns for 2018.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission reports that nonfarm employment has increased by 19,400 since October 2017 as the state has seen 13 consecutive months of job growth. L-W-C Secretary Ava Dejoie says the mining and logging sector is part of that job growth, with 2,100 jobs added since October 2017…

A 19-year-old is gearing up for his first term on his local school board. Stanley Celestine Junior received 65-percent of the vote on November sixth for a seat on the Avoyelles Parish School Board. He’s also pursuing a bachelor’s in sociology through an online program at McNeese State. Celestine says he also works in the mental health field and owns his own consulting company for non-profits

The Saints look unstoppable as New Orleans won its ninth straight yesterday beating the defending Super Bowl champs 48-7. The frustration was evident with Philadelphia. Former Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins flipped the bird at Sean Payton after the Saints scored on a 37-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-six with 13:22 left to go in the game and the Saints already up by 31 points.

A Thanksgiving dinner in Louisiana is quite the bargain, when compared to the nationwide cost. The American Farm Bureau says the average nationwide cost is $48.90, but in Louisiana it’s half that. Louisiana Farm Bureau spokesperson Avery Davidson says turkeys are much cheaper in the Bayou State….

A major sticking point is that House Republicans, like Abraham, want work requirements for some recipients of food stamps. But the Senate version of the legislation does not contain that language.

According to the American Farm Bureau, the nationwide average price for a Thanksgiving dinner is $48.90, but it’s much cheaper in Louisiana. Just $22.63 after surveying a few Louisiana grocery stores. Avery Davidson is with the Louisiana Farm Bureau and he says you can save some more, if you do your research….

Davidson says turkey is much cheaper here in Louisiana, which is the major reason why the overall cost of the Thanksgiving dinner is down.

A young leader is emerging in Avoyelles Parish. 19-year-old Stanley Celestine Junior has been elected to the Avoyelles school board and will begin serving his term in January. The district just received a “C” grade from the state department of education. Celestine says one of the first things he wants to look at is the school system’s discipline policies

It goes down as the worst loss ever for a team that won the Super Bowl the year before.

Quarterback Drew Brees threw for 363 yards and four touchdowns. Tre’Quan Smith caught a career-high 10 passes for 157 yards and a touchdown. Fellow wide out Michael Thomas caught four passes for 92 yards and became the first Saint to have over over 1,000 yards receiving in his first three seasons in the NFL.

Les Miles is back as a college football coach. He was introduced yesterday as the new head man for the floundering Kansas Jayhawk football program. The “Hat” has signed a five-year deal worth two-point-seven million dollars annually.

After beating Rice 42-10, LSU has moved up to number eight in both major college football polls. The Tigers close out the regular season this Saturday in College Station against Texas A-and-M. LSU will go for its 10th win, while the Aggies are looking for their eighth win in Jimbo Fisher’s first year.

Nicholls will host San Diego this Saturday in the first round of the F-C-S playoffs. It’s the second straight year the Colonels will host the Pioneer Football League champion in the postseason. Nicholls is one of three Southland schools to make the playoffs, U-I-W and Lamar are also in.

ULM, the Ragin Cajuns and Arkansas State are in a three-way tie for first place in the Sun Belt’s West Division. UL-Lafayette visits the Warhawks this Saturday.
