Louisiana’s Avery Island in Iberia Parish has been added to the National Register of Historic Places. Avery Island is where Tabasco pepper sauce is made and the island is home to over 100-thousand birds and prehistoric archaeological sites.

NOAA is predicting we’ll see above-average precipitation totals during the winter months in Louisiana. So does that mean we’ll see a greater chance for winter precipitation from December to February. State Climatologist Barry Keim says no, because much of the country can expect a warm winter…

The Sabine Parish Sheriff’s office is awaiting on the Hancock Sheriff’s office to extradite 23-year-old Darrell Williams Junior back to Sabine. He’s the main suspect in the murder of 23-year-old Lynnquithis January of Many back in June. Joe Dewil with the Sabine Sheriff’s office says Williams was arrested in Mississippi on drug and gun charges…

More than a year after the hazing death of Max Gruver, LSU frats are still seeing allegations of misconduct resulting in suspensions.  LSU announced the school has placed the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity on suspension as a result of incidents that have occurred during Fall 2018.  The announcement marks the second time this semester that LSU has placed a frat under investigation for possible violations.

 

LSU will wear special uniforms versus Mississippi State Saturday night that will commemorate the “Silent Season” of 1918, where the Tigers did not play football because of World War One. LSU equipment manager Greg Stringfellow says the jersey and pants will be white, the numbers are purple and no name on the back to honor the unknown members of the LSU community who died in World War One.

Stringfellow says the paint scheme of the color changing helmet has an iridescent effect between purple and gold, not only showcases the school colors but is a reference to the history of Mardi Gras.
A tip from the Sabine Parish Sherriff’s Office led to the arrest of a man in Waveland who had a warrant out for a murder he allegedly committed in Many. Sabine Parish Sherriff’s spokesperson Joe Dewil says they don’t have a murder for Williams’ murder, but they think he wasn’t living in Louisiana, but in Mississippi, at the time he committed the crime.

A woman who says she was raped 20 years ago recognizes her alleged rapist at a wedding reception last June and now that man is behind bars.  Baton Rouge Police Sergeant Don Coppola says the victim did the right thing by alerting authorities after she recognized her attacker 20 years later.

38-year-old John Louis Davis of Baker has been charged with aggravated rape after the woman got his name and contacted authorities.

It may be a warmer than normal winter outlook across most of the country, but forecasts say Louisiana will be in for an average Bayou Winter, with above average rain totals. State Climatologist Barry Keim says that’s due to the likely presence of a weak El Nino that’s sending cloudy weather our way.

And for those excited about a great possibility of snow due to the higher than average rainfall totals, Keim says you may want to temper your expectations, as the cold northern air necessary will likely be blocked.

Hammond is hosting its first airshow in 26 years tomorrow at the Regional Airport, with a packed lineup. Hammond Mayor Pete Panepinto says the world famous F22 will be putting on a show, but if you’re less about 400 million dollar fighters, and more into the classics…

The Smithsonian Institute will now be the new home for more than 100-thousand preserved crustaceans collected by UL Lafayette researchers over the past four decades. UL Lafayette Professor Darryl Felder says the collection is headed to a giant warehouse facility similar to the one at the end of Raiders of the Lost Arc, but instead of crates, they’re in pods.

The collection is likely the largest archive of gene sequence quality specimen of its kind.

The Ragin Cajuns are 0-4 against Appalachian State and UL Lafayette gets another crack at them again this Saturday when they visit the Mountaineers. UL Lafayette has won two straight, while the Mountaineers have won four in a row. Kick-off is at 2:30.

Grambling visits the top team in the SWAC as they visit Alcorn State. Grambling quarterback Geremy Hickbottom has thrown six touchdown passes in his last two games.

The Saints are in Baltimore to face the Ravens on Sunday. Quarterback Drew Brees is well aware he’s never defeated the A-F-C North team in his Hall of Fame career…

Brees will not have his top deep threat for at least the next two months. The Saints have placed receiver Ted Ginn Junior on injured reserve as he’s been battling a bad knee. The Pelicans home opener is tonight as the Birds on the Bayou will host the Sacramento Kings. It will be a special game for Gretna native and former Ragin Cajun Elfrid Payton who will play his first game in the Smoothie King Center in a Pelicans uniform.

A man suspected in five separate murders in Bienville Parish area is in custody after authorities found him during a traffic stop in Waveland, Mississippi. Hancock County sheriff deputies arrested Darrell Williams Junior and his wife, Casi Williams. Commander Jeremy Skinner said they received word from the Bienville Parish Sheriff’s office that Williams could be along the Mississippi coast.

Louisiana State police has arrested former Bunkie Police Chief Bobby Corner and one of his former officers. Corner allegedly allowed multiple pieces of evidence to be unsecured, misplaced and lost in the police department’s building. He also allegedly mishandled a felony case file and failed to process traffic tickets. Trooper Scott Moreau says former dispatcher Nicholas Desselle is also in trouble…

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement says they’ve arrested one of their most wanted fugitives during a targeted operation in Acadia Parish. Jose Melchor Martinez, also known as Jose Luis Martinez-Sanchez, is a Mexican national who was in the country illegally and has been convicted of taking indecent liberties with a child in North Carolina in 2002. He was arrested at a home in Church Point.

Some serious hardware will be on display at the Hammond Regional Airport for the return of its Regional Air Show that will run from 11 AM to 4 PM on Saturday and Sunday…
