The state health department is holding flu vaccination clinics, including one today in Thibodaux. Louisiana’s Immunization Director, Doctor Frank Welch, says similar set ups were done in the time of polio, and the ability to execute this type of operation needs continual practice…

New Orleans trailed by 10 points in the fourth quarter, but Brees led the Saints on two fourth quarter drives to take a 24-17 lead. The Ravens made it 24-23 with 24 seconds left, but Justin Tucker missed the extra point, the first ever in his NFL career and New Orleans held on for a one point win. Brees on the missed P-A-T….

The Louisiana Workforce Commission is celebrating 12 months of jobs gains, noting the Bayou State has added 19,900 non farm jobs since September of 2017. Secretary Ava Dejoie says quite a few industries saw year-to-year gains.

Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and Lake Charles saw the biggest gains over the year, but one small city in Southeast Louisiana remarkable jump in job opportunities since September of last year.

The town of 20,000 people is home to Southeastern Louisiana University.

Lafayette is up nearly a thousand jobs over last year, with many pointing to the success as evidence that the oil industry is slowly returning. Dejoie says that’s true, but the state has also been working to make sure South Central Louisiana isn’t so dependent on natural resources for their economy.

Despite the gains, the Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the state’s unemployment rate at five percent, third highest in the nation.

With flu season starting soon, the Louisiana Department of Health has scheduled flu vaccine clinics around the state, including one today in Thibodaux. Health officials recommend a yearly flu shot for everyone over six months who doesn’t have a complicating condition. Louisiana immunization director Dr. Frank Welch says the flu vaccine clinics are a test run for a more serious emergency.

The Agriculture Department says they anticipate the first batch of medical marijuana will be tested around mid-November. Commissioner Mike Strain attends a meeting today amid concerns from licensed medical marijuana pharmacies that the product will not be available this year. Strain says the grower, GB Sciences, has harvested its first plants.

Strain says GB will not be allowed to grow at a larger, primary facility until they complete a legislatively mandated start-up process that includes State Police background checks.

But the project has hit a new roadblock related to testing the pot to make sure it’s safe for consumption. Strain says a myriad of tests need to be run, but they’re having trouble finding a second lab to verify their own safety results.

Strain says they’ve spent 800,000 dollars purchasing equipment to run their test with. And when asked when the oil and pill form based CBD treatments will be available…

Down 10 points in the 4th quarter the Saints scored 17 consecutive points and held on for a 24-23 win over the Baltimore Ravens. New Orleans did a lot of things well to get the win, 4-for-5 on fourth down, only gave up two sacks to the the NFL leader in sacks and Quarterback Drew Brees threw two touchdown passes against the league’s top ranked defense. NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center anticipates a weak El Nino will help produce wetter than normal conditions for Louisiana this winter. State Climatologist Barry Keim says during El Nino winters, storm systems tend to form in the Gulf of Mexico…

A tip from the Sabine Parish Sherriff’s Office led to the arrest of a man in Waveland, Mississippi, who allegedly killed 23-year-old Lynnquithis January of Many. January was killed June 18th at an apartment complex. Joe Dewil, with the Sabine Parish Sheriff’s office, says the suspect, 23-year-old Darrell Williams Junior, was living in Mississippi at the time he committed the crime, so the investigation involved multiple departments across two states.

New Orleans will be back at home on Tuesday as they host the Clippers.

A Bossier Parish elementary substitute school teacher has been charged with rape in a case involving one of Benton Elementary School’s students. 47-year-old Aubrey Norcross of Bossier City was arrested earlier this week on video voyeurism of another student. She’s being held at the Bossier Maximum Security Facility on a bond of 900,000 dollars.

It may be a warmer than normal winter outlook across most of the country, but forecasts say Louisiana will be in for an average Bayou Winter, with above average rain totals. State Climatologist Barry Keim says that’s due to the likely presence of a weak El Nino that’s sending cloudy weather our way.

That means more heavy rain storms across the season than usual, and for those excited about a greater possibility of snow due to the higher than average rainfall totals, Keim says that’s less likely due to hotter temperatures up north keeping that snowy Canadian weather away.

A tip from the Sabine Parish Sherriff’s Office led to the arrest of a man in Waveland, Mississippi, who allegedly killed 23-year-old Lynnquithis January of Many. Spokesperson Joe Dewil says when Hancock County Deputies pulled over Williams Jr. and his wife, they say they discovered 3.5 pounds of pot, a .40 caliber, and 11,000 in cash.  Dewil says despite the charges in Waveland, Williams will likely be extradited to Louisiana soon.

More than a year after the hazing death of Max Gruver, LSU frats are still seeing allegations of misconduct resulting in suspensions.  LSU announced the school has placed the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity on suspension as a result of incidents that have occurred during Fall 2018.  The announcement marks the second time this semester that LSU has placed a frat under investigation for possible violations.
