Kenner Mayor Ben Zahn says he doesn’t want taxpayer dollars used for a political campaign and that’s why he issued a memo that called for a ban on Nike merchandise by the city’s recreation department and booster clubs who use those facilities. Nike has launched a marketing campaign featuring Colin Kaepernick who started the national anthem protests.

31-year-old Kayla Coutee is behind bars today after she allegedly shot her estranged husband at a Walmart parking lot in Alexandria on Saturday. Alexandria Police Corporal Wade Bourgeois says Kayla Coutee was meeting her husband to exchange children that included a two-year-old child…..

Kayle Coutee has been charged with second-degree murder. The victim is Thomas Coutee Junior, who worked at Central Louisiana Technical Community College.

Several motorists on I-12 between Hammond and Walker had to pull over today because of flat tires. State Police Trooper Bryan Lee says a bunch of nails punctured the tires and they are not sure where the nails came from….

Governor John Bel Edwards says his office will push to fund at least a one-thousand dollar pay raise for public school teachers, when the legislature meets in April. The governor’s education policy advisor, Donald Songy, believes the state can afford it, thanks to a strengthening economy…

Governor John Bel Edwards has plans to recommend a raise of at least a grand for public school teachers, the first substantial raise in about a decade.  The plan would also see cafeteria workers and other personel get a pay boost of $500 annually.  The governor’s education policy advisor Edward Songy says the message from Edwards to the teachers is clear.

Songy says the extra money to fund the pay raises will likely come from a stronger economy.

Drivers on I-12 West approaching Baton Rouge got a nasty surprise today as the road was littered with nails, leading to over a dozen flats for commuters. Authorities aren’t sure if this was intentional, or just a case of bad luck, but either way State Police Spokesperson Trooper Bryan Lee says it sure did cause a lot trouble for quite a few drivers.

There are concerns about LSU’s offensive line heading into Saturday’s SEC opener against Auburn. For the second straight week, the Tigers had trouble protecting quarterback Joe Burrow, who was sacked twice and completed just 10 passes in a 31-0 win over Southeastern Louisiana. Head Coach Ed Orgeron says they got a lot of work to do…

And the Saints D got an Ivy League Education yesterday from Harvard grad Ryan Fitzpatrick who took Cam Jordan and Co. to school to the tune of 417 yards through the air and 5 total touchdowns in the Bucs upset 48-40 win over the Black and Gold. It’s yet another year in a row New Orleans has failed to win their opening game. They went 0-2 to start the year last year.

A disorganized area of thunderstorms in the northwest Caribbean Sea is grabbing the attention of forecasters. Seth Warthen, with the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, says the chances of development of anything major are low.

The disturbance is expected to make it into the Gulf of Mexico and forecasters say an eventual landfall is more likely along the Texas coastline.

An Alexandria woman faces second-degree murder in the death of her husband in front of their three children Saturday in the parking lot of a Walmart. Alexandria Police say 31-year-old Kayla Coutee shot her 30-year-old estranged husband, Thomas Coutee. Corporal Wade Bourgeois.

The three children in the vehicle were unharmed, but may have witnessed the shooting.

Southeastern may not have fared so well against LSU on the football field, but according to a report, at least their students graduate with a lot less debt…

After a 48-40 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers yesterday, New Orleans has now lost seven of its last eight season openers. After bringing back much of the roster from last year’s NFC South championship team. The hope was for New Orleans to get off to a fast start by playing the first two weeks of the season at home against two of the worst teams from last year. Coach Sean Payton says they will need to do some self scouting this week…

New Orleans will try again this Sunday against Cleveland. The Browns, who went winless last season, started the 2018 campaign with a 21-21 tie versus the Steelers.

Southeastern Louisiana University students graduate with less debt than any other university in Louisiana, that according to a report from LendEDU. The average Louisiana student’s debt clocks in at 26,800 dollars, but SELU President John Crain says his university’s average is thousands of dollars lower….

Today marks the statistical peak of the Atlantic hurricane season and there are three hurricanes forecasters are watching. State Climatologist Barry Keim says sea surface temps are just right in the storm breeding grounds…

None of the hurricanes are an immediate threat to the Gulf of Mexico, but the National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area in the northwest Caribbean Sea that has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression in the Gulf later this week.

An announcement from Senator John Kennedy on his intentions to run for governor next year may be coming soon. Kennedy says he’s spoken with consultant Fred Davis

Kennedy says he’s done some polling and 51-percent of respondents say they would vote for him, while 37-percent would vote for Governor John Bel Edwards. Attorney General Jeff Landry and US Representative Ralph Abraham are also considering a campaign.

31-year-old Kayla Coutee faces a charge of second-degree murder after Alexandria Police say she fatally shot her husband in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart on Saturday. Authorities say Coutee and the 30-year-old victim met there to exchange custody of the children. Three children were present and none of them were injured.

For the fifth straight season, the Saints lose their season opener as Tampa Bay came into the Mercedes Benz Superdome and shocked New Orleans 48-40. Bucs journeymen quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick had a career passing day with 417 passing yards and four touchdowns, he also rushed for 36 yards and a touchdown. The Saints came into the game as a 9.5 point favorite. Coach Sean Payton agreed with everyone else, the defense played poorly…

Meanwhile, there are three hurricanes in the Atlantic as today marks the statistical peak of the hurricane season. State Climatologist Barry Keim says we could see tropical cyclone development become suppressed later in the season, because of an El Nino weather pattern could emerge….

Ten people were injured when a floor collapsed during a funeral service at a church in Hammond over the weekend. Officials say termites weakened the floor and about dozen people fell into a four-foot-hole. Two people were taken to a hospital, while the rest suffered minor injuries.
