Burrow was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week today. He threw for 249 yards and a touchdown. LSU hosts Louisiana Tech on Saturday.

McNeese State is also off to a 3-0 start after a solid 20-10 win over Nicholls State on Saturday. The Cowboys defense was impressive led by linebacker B-J Blunt who had three sacks and a fumble recovery. The Cowboys will visit 25th ranked BYU this Saturday.

After losing to SEC west opponents last Saturday, ULM and UL Lafayette begin Sun Belt play this Saturday. The Cajuns host Coastal Carolina, while the Warhawks take on Troy in Monroe.

The Saints were nearly upset for the second straight week on Sunday, but made enough plays in the fourth quarter and benefited from Zane Gonzales’ four missed field goals to squeak out a 21-18 win over the hapless Cleveland Browns. Coach Sean Payton not happy with the two fumbles and numerous mental mistakes. He says the team will not become magically better, they’ll have to put the work in….

Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser has returned to the Bayou state following a ten day trip to China as part of a Louisiana tourism mission in an attempt to lure visitors from the Chinese market.  The trip included a stop at the 12th annual China-US Tourism Leadership Summit. Nungesser says they took two Louisiana chefs along to showcase the food of the area.

This is the last week of summer, but it feels like the middle of the summer with heat index values over 100-degrees. Some records have fallen during this latest heat wave. The first day of Fall is Saturday. State Climatologist Barry Keim says we are still a couple of weeks away from that first significant cold front that brings a touch of fall to Louisiana.

The Louisiana Urban Search and Rescue teams are conducting water rescues this morning in Chesterfield Country, South Carolina, where water has gotten into homes and trapped families from escaping on their own.  Louisiana Fire Marshal Spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says South Carolina helped out Louisiana during hurricanes and flooding and this is just a way to pay that favor back.

That’s according State Fire Marshal spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue who says over one-hundred Louisiana emergency personnel were deployed to the Carolinas last Tuesday and may need to stay a few more days as the water keeps rising in some areas…

Eleven officers from the around the state just completed a 40-hour sniper school course at the Caddo Sheriff’s Regional Training Academy. Sheriff’s Corporal Justin Dunn is the course instructor and to become a marskmen in law enforcement it takes a completely different skill set…

Suspended LSU wide receiver Drake Davis is behind bars this morning as he was arrested for a second time in a month for battery charges against his former girlfriend. LSU Police say they learned evidence of batteries that have occurred since Davis was first arrested on August 17th. The 21-year-old Davis also allegedly violated a protection order.

A Shreveport Police officer fatally shot a suspect yesterday during a domestic violence incident. Authorities say officers arrived to the scene and found a man firing a gun and allegedly holding a woman at gunpoint. Police say an officer at the scene fired at least one shot and struck the suspect in the upper body. The suspect died at University Health Hospital. the investigation continues.

Randy Edwards, who appeared on the History Channel’s Swamp People” died in a car crash on Saturday. That’s according to social media posts from his family. Louisiana State Police say a Randy Edwards from Donaldsonville died in a single vehicle wreck in Iberville Parish on Saturday morning. He was just 35-years-old.

Two fumbles by the offense, plus they went 3 for 12 on third downs as the unit looked out of sync for much of the game. Payton also says the 47-yard touchdown pass by the Browns to tie the game should have never happened based on the coverage.

New Orleans heads to Atlanta this Sunday. The Falcons are 1-1 after beating Carolina 31-24. Tampa Bay is 20-0 as Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for over 400 yards again in a 27-21 win over Philadelphia.

The Department of Economic Development is launching a new mentorship program that will pair business veterans with upstart entrepreneurs to help get the rookies off the bench and onto the field. Secretary Don Pierson says the program has received a lot of interest from experienced businesspeople, who are looking to pass on some vital knowledge.

Pierson says there’s a range of skills businesspeople need, and just because a business newbie has a great idea and the work ethic to make it happen, doesn’t mean they’re exactly ready for prime time.

A bill that would increase the share of offshore energy revenues for Gulf States sailed out of a U-S House committee with little opposition. States with land-based energy production receive a substantially higher percentage of revenues than states that support offshore drilling. Congressman Garret Graves says he knows it’ll be an uphill climb for this type of legislation, but it’s  off to a great start.

Graves says 99 percent of all offshore revenue went to the feds.

The United Cajun Navy is currently in North Carolina as the area is experiencing massive flooding from Hurricane Florence.  Founder of the group, Todd Terrell, says those that want to help can make donations via the United Cajun Navy’s Facebook page.  He says the team is facing many challenges with the elements in the Carolinas.

Louisiana Treasury Secretary John Schroder estimates the state will have an over 300 million dollar budget surplus from last year after revenues out performed expectations. There’s tight, constitutional limits on just how this cash can get spent, which means it can’t be dropped straight into the state general fund for this year, but Schroder says after surveying the options, he’s got a few recommendations.

The Edwards administration says any estimates before the audit is finished are premature.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says a Winnsboro man had roadkill in the cooler of his restaurant and then took it home to butcher it.  L-D-W-F’s Adam Einck says it’s a crime that can net you jail time.
