Starting a business can be daunting but under a new mentorship program through the state, you might find it less intimidating than you think. Matt Doyle has more.

Eleven Law enforcement officers from around the state have made their way to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office for Sniper School this past week. Kevin Barnhart has the story.

The Department of Economic Development is launching a new mentorship program that will pair business veterans with upstart entrepreneurs to help get the rookies off the bench and onto the field. Secretary Don Pierson says the program has received a lot of interest from experienced businesspeople, who are looking to pass on some vital knowledge.

Pierson says there’s a range of skills businesspeople need, and just because a business newbie has a great idea and the work ethic to make it happen, doesn’t mean they’re exactly ready for prime time.

The program has partnerships for those interested in public and private sector work, as well as focus areas for women, veterans, and minorities. Pierson says it’s a great chance to begin building your network of business contacts.

The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office hosted a sniper training course this past week, welcoming law enforcement from the area. Cpl. Justin Dunn says the officers were instructed on safety and the importance of the role of being a sniper.

Dunn says Hollywood may give the idea that snipers are laying around in shrubbery and plinking off bad guys, but he says that’s not quite the case.

Dunn says he believes the officers taking the course have picked up quite a bit over the last week.

A team with the Louisiana State Fire Marshal has been staging in Florence, South Carolina in response to the hurricane by the same name. Rodrigue says the group is packed for a stay of 5 to 7 days.

Rodrigue says South Carolina helped out Louisiana during hurricanes and flooding and this is just a way to pay that favor back.

The 6th ranked LSU Tigers are a surprising 3-0 after a come from behind 22-21 win over previously 7th ranked Auburn. Cole Tracy is a big reason why the Tigers have knocked off two top teams. Tracy hit three field goals in the season opening win over Miami and then silenced Auburn fans with a clutch 42-yard field goal for a walk off victory. The former Assumption College kicker says he’s keeping it simple…

LSU trailed 21-10 in the 4th quarter, but the game turned when quarterback Joe Burrow hit Derrick Dillon over the middle who raced past the Auburn defense for 71-yard touchdown pass. Burrow says it was the type of play the Tigers needed

Auburn scored two touchdowns in the 2nd quarter and then started the 2nd half with a touchdown drive that led to a 21-10 lead. Burrow says the offense and defense had faith in each other…

The win moved LSU up six spots in the AP poll to number six and they have two winnable games coming up, Louisiana Tech and Ole Miss. Coach Ed Orgeron was asked about silencing the critics who didn’t think LSU would have a good season…

LSU hosts Louisiana Tech this Saturday. The Bulldogs are 2-0 and coming off a bye.

Thanks to four missed kicks by Cleveland’s Zane Gonzales the Saints were able to rally to beat the Cleveland Browns 21-18. New Orleans trailed 12-3 in the 4th quarter, but Quarterback Drew Brees finally got it goinwith two touchdown passes to Michael Thomas. Will Lutz’s 44-yard field goal with 21-seconds left was the game winner. But Coach Sean Payton is not happy with how his team is playing

A Marcus Williams interception set up the first of two touchdown passes by Brees. But Payton is not happy with two fumbles from his team and the numerous mental mistakes
The Saints will go on the road next weekend to face NFC rival Atlanta. Payton says his team will not become magically better, they’ll have to put the work in
