LSU begins fall camp in about three weeks.

Tonight it’s the Major League Baseball All-Star game. Two former Tigers are expected to appear in the game, Alex Bregman and Aaron Nola. Both are making their first apperance in the Mid Summer Classic.

Former LSU Tiger Marcus Spears has reached a multiyear contract extension with ESPN. Spears does much of his television work on the SEC Network.

Louisiana Tech is picked to finish second in the West Division of Conference USA according to a polll conducted by media members who cover the league. North Texas is the favorite to win the West, while Florida Atlantic is the favorite to win the East. The Bulldogs were followed by UAB, Southern Miss, U-T-S-A and tie between Rice and UTEP.

Former Saints wide receiver Brandin Cooks is reportedly getting paid as the Rams are set to sign the deep threat to a five-year contract extension worth 88-million dollars. The 24-year-old was traded in April by the Patriots to the Rams after he caught 65-passes for 1,082 yards and seven touchdowns last year.

In the NBA, ESPN reports former LSU Tiger Garret Temple will reportedly be traded from Sacramento to Memphis. The Kings would get Ben McLemore and Deyonta Davis in return.

The Audubon Zoo in New Orleans gave an update today on how a jaguar got out of his enclosure on Sunday and killed nine animals.  Jeff Palermo has more.

Louisiana has seen an uptick in productions around the state for television shows and motion pictures.  Executive Director of Louisiana Entertainment, Chris Stelly credits a 2017 reform in the state’s incentive program for making Louisiana one of the most in demand locations.

The program is capped at a budget of $150 million per fiscal year, but in return, Stelly says it’s a rewarding experience for the communities involved.

Currently, five television shows being filmed in communities around the state.  Stelly estimates that the economic impact is in the billions, but says a true metric is being studied right now with more official results available in in early 2019.

The Audubon Zoo in New Orleans says the jaguar that got loose on Sunday and killed nine other animals most likely bit through a stainless steel cable barrier near the roof of his enclosure. Zoo Director Kyle Burks says the big cat then pushed through an eight-by-ten inch hole in the roof and got out. Burks says the enclosure is inspected on a regular basis.

Burks says the enclosure will receive a new material stronger than the current steel used for the roof.

President Donald Trump has clarified comments made yesterday regarding Russia’s interference with the 2016 US elections. The President says he does accept US intelligence that found evidence Russia meddled in the election and meant the opposite when he said he doesn’t see why Russia would have interfered. Some prominent anti-Trump commentators accuse the President of treason. But Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves says that’s out of line.

Bregman was defeated in the first round, Schwarber ended up losing in the championship round to Bryce Harper, who made a furious rally to win it all in front of his home fans. Tonight is the Major League Baseball All-Star game in DC. Former LSU stars Bregman and Aaron Nola will play in that game.

Baton Rouge Republican Congressman Garret Graves says he strongly disagrees with what President Donald Trump had to say when it comes whether Russia meddled in the 2016 US Election. Mr. Trump questioned American intelligence findings after a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. But Graves says multiple investigations have proved Russia meddled in the US elections and the President should provide additional clarity on the United States relationship with Russia.

The eyes of the college football world are on Georgia this week for SEC Media Days. LSU coaches and stars took the mike yesterday to talk shop. Team leaders also got the chance to talk with media, including senior tight end Foster Moreau. Moreau, who’s gained a reputation for his astute post-game observations and expansive vocabulary, says being a sesquipedalian can get him into trouble with his teammates.

A new approach by the Louisiana Department of Health in providing home and community services will end the waiting list for thousands of citizens with developmental disabilities.  Deputy Secretary of LDH, Mark Thomas, says so far residents are pretty happy.

Audubon Zoo officials will hold a press conference at one o’ clock this afternoon to give an update on the investigation into how a jaguar escaped and killed nine other animals over the weekend. Investigators believe the jaguar damaged steel cable barrier and zoo-keeper error is not a factor.

Carb washing… It’s the latest trend seen on football fields, boxing rings, and recently the world cup. Some athletes say the practice of rinsing a carb solution around in their mouth, but not consuming it, is providing a boost. Assistant Professor at LSU Health New Orleans, Dr. Henry Nuss says scientists are not so sure of the validity of the claims.
