The Saints have reportedly released tight end Coby Fleener after two seasons of a five year, 36-million dollar contract. Last year, Fleener caught just 22 passes for 295 yards and two touchdowns. You knew this was coming after the Saints brought back Benjamin Watson.

LSU right-hander AJ Labas was named SEC Freshman of the Week. Labas made his first conference start yesterday and pitched six solid innings against the Razorbacks, allowing just one run on four hits and striking out three.

Southeastern’s Corey Gaconi has been named Southland Pitcher of the Week. Gaconi tossed a two-hit shutout yesterday in S-L-U’s six to nothing win over Southland conference leading Sam Houston State. Southeastern is just 1.5 games back of the first-place Bearkats.

Louisiana is now on a six year run of record breaking tourism numbers as the state saw 500,000 more visitors in 2017 than it saw in 2016, for a total of 46.7 million visitors. Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser says the fact that Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans now offers direct flights into London and Germany is huge for tourism.

Starting today business with over 20 locations that sell food, including groceries and movie theaters, must display calorie counts. Along with calorie counts, business will be required to provide detailed nutritional information about their food products as well, Assistant Professor at the LSU Health Sciences New Orleans Center Dr. Henry Nuss says that’s a big help for people on strict diets.

The Senate Finance Committee heard testimony today from disability advocates who are raising the alarm over the House passed budget that would place deep cuts in healthcare starting July 1st, including the slashing of programs for the disabled. Ville Platte Senator Eric LaFluer says the cuts would eliminate services for over 45 thousand developmentally disabled patients.

ARC of Ouachita representative Tina Holly says without these services, her family and friends would be broken up, and forced to move into nursing homes, if any would be available after the cuts kick in.

Emotional testimony was presented on behalf of the disabled, this man said it was a life or death situation.

Amy Duplechain of Lafayette receives assistance from the Long Term Care Special Income Level program, which allows people who earn under 2,250 dollars a month to get access to some Medicaid services. She says the cuts would force her into an impossible decision.

The Senate Finance Committee is expected to approve a budget later this week, but approving additional funding will have to wait until a special session.

A two vehicle crash near Sorrento on Interstate 10 killed two children last night. State Police Trooper Bryan Lee says the driver of the vehicle who struck the victim’s car ,47-year-old Stephen Daigle of Gonzales, was arrested and charged with negligent homicide, negligent injuring and reckless operations

Lee says the victims were identified as one-month-old Arielle Philson and an eight-year-old Willie Williams Jr., both from Houston. All passengers involved in the crash were not restrained. Lee says proper restraints save lives…

It is not known whether impairment was a factor in the fatal crash. State Police took toxicology samples from both drivers and additional charges are pending upon analysis…

Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans now offers direct flights into London and Germany. Nungesser says that’s played a huge role in bringing in more international guests.

For a sixth consecutive year, Louisiana has broken a record for the number of tourists. Just over 47-million people visited the state last year, an increase of nearly 500-thousand from the year before. Lieutenenant Governor Billy Nungesser says direct international flights connecting New Orleans to London and Germany helped boost international visitors and now the goal is to get more tourists from Asia….

Lafayette Police announce the arrest of four juveniles on charges of terrorizing and Disturbing the Peace for an alleged “Flash Mob” style disturbance. Authorities say these individuals caused a large crowd of festival goers to suddenly run in fear from the downtown area on April 28th. Police credit additional crime cameras for helping them identify the juveniles involved.

A 4.6 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday morning, about 120 miles southeast of Grand Isle. According to the Richter Scale, a 4.6 magnitude earthquake is consdidered light. There have been no reports that anyone felt anything in southeast Louisiana.

A one-month-old and an eight-year-old from Houston were killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Ascension Parish last night. After yesterday’s 118-92 loss to Golden State, the Pelicans now trail the best of seven series with Golden State three games to one. The LSU baseball team desperately needed a good weekend after losing seven of nine and the Tigers came through with a series victory over fourth ranked Arkansas. AJ Labas started and tossed six strong innings and Matthew Beck pitched a season high three shutout innings for his first save.

The Ragin Cajuns four-game winning streak ended yesterday with a 10-3 loss to 15th ranked Coastal Carolina. ULM swept a Sun Belt Series for the first time since 2014 by taking three from Georgia State. Louisiana Tech is in third place in Conference USA after dropping a series to Middle Tennessee.

Multiple reports say former LSU Tiger and Winnboro native Booger McFarland will join the Monday Night Football Broadcast crew. He’ll serve as an on field analyst.

Season ticket renewals for LSU football games have only declined one-percent, despite a concern about a dramatic drop in season ticket holders, because of changes with federal tax laws. LaToya Cantrell will be sworn in today as the first female mayor in New Orleans’ 300-year history. Cantrell arrives in office with a potential major scandal in the making. Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry is investigating the former city council member for potential misuse of a city credit card. Political Analyst Clancy DuBos says it’s an investigation that casts a pall not just over her, but many city officials.
