But House Republican legislative leader Lance Harris says they are determining if they can pass a budget by making cuts and using savings to fill the deficit.

The search continues in Claiborne Parish for a missing four-year-old boy. Junior Phillips was last seen around 11:30 in the morning last Thursday. Sheriff Ken Bailey says dive teams are searching a couple of ponds in the area today. A search of a wooded area around the home has come up empty. Investigators believe the little boy wandered away from the home while outside with the mother’s boyriend.

Baton Rouge Police detectives are investigating a fatal shooting in which the person who died is suspected of breaking into vehicles at the time. Corporal Don Coppola says 18-year-old Brice Lewis died at the scene early Sunday morning

Governor John Bel Edwards is continuing his pledge to end the regular legislative session early to take up fiscal matters that are pressing. Testifying in a rare Sunday meeting of the senate finance committee Edwards again urged early dismissal.

LSU Engineering students have built a special wheelchair, designed for cruising beaches, in response to an inspiring essay from a girl with muscular dystrophy. Cheslyn Simpson of Plaquemine loves beaches, but is wheelchair bound. Blaize Vansickel from Livingston Parish says it’s technology for a better quality of life.

If the wheelchair works, Vansickel says they hope they can have it mass produced for others, who love a trip to the beach, but are wheelchair bound. He says working on the project has been a joy.

They’ve setup a GoFundMe for donations, and also accept support through the LSU Foundation under team 43.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says they have yet to find any positive results for chronic wasting disease in Louisiana. L-D-W-F was put on alert when a case was confirmed in the Mississippi Delta just five miles away from the Louisiana border. LDWF Program Manager Johnathan Bordelon says they’ve sampled 188 deer from East Carroll, Madison and Tensas parishes

Bordelon says they will continue to work with private landowners to obtain consent for sampling efforts and they are asking for the public to watch out for signs of the disease

Martiny says rent prices and housing availability should not be subject to local control.

The project got off the ground with a contribution from an LSU donor, but since then has been mostly self-funded. Vansickel says they’re getting close to a finished product.

Former University High in Baton Rouge golfer Patrick Reed is the owner of a Green Jacket as he outlasted Rickie Fowler by one stroke to win his first Masters. It’s also the first major for the 27-year-old, who finished the tournament 15-under par. The San Antonio native now has six wins on the P-G-A Tour and he takes home one-point-nine million dollars for winning the Masters.

Two games left in the season for the Pelicans and they can finish anywhere from 4th in the Western Conference to out of the playoffs. New Orleans faces the Los Angeles Clippers tonight, who have been eliminated from the postseason. Currently, the Pels are in a three-way tie for fifth place with Oklahoma City and San Antonio. The Spurs are in the Big Easy Wednesday for the regular season finale.

After four weekends of SEC play, LSU is in third place in the Western division, two games back of division leader Arkansas. The Tigers lost two of three from Texas A-and-M, while the 8th ranked Razorbacks swept a series from 15th Auburn.

Louisiana Tech’s Hunter Wells hit for the cycle in yesterday’s 13-0 run-rule victory over U-T-S-A. Wells crushed a three-run home run to complete the cycle. The 22nd ranked Bulldogs scored plenty of enough runs for Logan Bailey, who threw seven shutout innings. Tech took two of three from the Roadrunners and they are now 9-3 in Conference USA play.

Turner Francis hit a two-run home run in the 8th inning and ULM edged Texas State three to two. Cole Gray was the winning pitcher in relief. The Warhawks are 6-6 in the Sun Belt.

The Cajuns fell to 5-7 in league play after losing four to two in 10 innings to U-T Arlington. Daniel Lahare had four hits in a losing effort.

Elsewhere….Nicholls split a doubleheader with Sam Houston State, Northwestern State split a doubleheader with Stephen F Austin. UNO swept Lamar in a double dip, McNeese defeated Abilene Christi six to two, Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi crushed Southeastern Louisiana 13-7. Grambling lost to Prairie view 8-7 and Tulane fell to Wichita State 8-2.
