Baton Rouge Representative Pat Smith wants to send some convicted criminals home if they have kids to take care of. It’s part of a proposed bill that would give judges more flexibility on deciding how to punish parents who have committed non-violent crimes. Smith says research has determined that kids who have lost contact with their parents are more likely to cause problems in school or on the streets.

Target and Walmart workers will see more money in their paycheck. Walmart says Associates in Louisiana will receive 13.7 million dollars in bonuses today, while Target says they are raising its minimum hourly wage to 12-dollars this spring and 15-dollars by the end of 2020. UNO Business Professor Mark Rosa says With higher wages, higher prices for customers at these stores may not be far behind. Rosa says it’s good to have growth, but it needs to be controlled…

The film has been presented at a film festival in Los Angeles and has been nominated for an award for Best Documentary-Short Category. Scotton says the way the story is presented is the reason behind it’s success…

Army Corps of Engineers Colonel Michael Clancy says .The water will be released into Lake Ponchatrain, which has traditionally worried ecologists. Clancy says the Corps has a plan in place to make sure the damage is contained.

Betting on the Pelicans has been a wise bet lately. New Orleans won its 10th straight last night, a 114 to 101 win over the Sacramento Kings. But All-Star Anthony Davis left the game in the third quarter after rolling his ankle. An MRI is expected today. The Pelicans are home tomorrow night against the Wizards.

The NFL is reportedly looking into the some of the questions Derrius Guice received while speaking with teams at the Draft Combine. Guice told SiriusXM Radio he was asked whether he likes men and whether his mom sells herself.

Last week it was a loss to Southeastern Louisiana and last night the Tigers fell to the Ragin Cajuns 4-3 in ten innings.

LSU basketball faces Mississippi State tonight in the SEC Tournament. Coach Will Wade says there’s a lot of unkowns playing State after beating them by 21 on Saturday…

A bill has been filed in the regular session to legalize sports betting in Louisiana. The U-S Supreme Court could soon issue a ruling that legalizes sports betting across the country. New Roads Representative Major Thibaut says thousands of Louisiana sports fans already gamble on the games.

He has a bill that allows sports betting parlors at the state’s four horse racing tracks in New Orleans, Vinton, Opelousas and Bossier City. Thibaut says a referendum will also be needed in those parishes and the race tracks would also be able to provide more options

Scotton at first didn’t want to allow filmmaker Phillip Braun and producer Benjamin Clapper to put his story to film, but ultimately decided it was worth it…

UL-Lafayette ended a five game losing streak to LSU in baseball with a four to three victory over the Tigers in 10 innnings. The Cajuns trailed 1-0 for the most of the game, but three consecutive bunts in the 8th inning sparked a three-run rally. Austin Bain tied the game at three with a two-run double in the ninth, but Bain suffered the loss when Jonathan Windham hit a soft single into centerfield to drive home the winning run.

Northwestern State lost in 11 innings to 10th ranked Texas A-and-M as the Aggies beat the Demons seven to six. Northwestern State blew a five run lead.

Elsewhere…Houston outscored McNeese State 13-9. Southeastern Louisiana scored seven runs in the 5th inning and 5 runs in the 8th inning for a 13-12 win over Tulane. Nicholls blanked Sacred Heart 10-to-zip. And Louisiana Tech shutout ULM 7-0. Chris Clayton drove in four runs and David Leal struck out eight.
