This morning in Tiger Stadium, The Chair of Honor will be unveiled for the first time to fans attending LSU’s game against Arkansas. The seat, located on the ground level in the north endzone, serves as a tribute to tribute to prisoners of war and soldiers who are missing in action. The “Chair of Honor” will be a permanent fixture in Tiger Stadium, be guarded during games and remain empty.

A pilot was killed when a small plane crashed in Rapides Parish, according to the Sheriff’s Office. They said the single-engine private aircraft was found in thick brush near Alexandria. Further details, including the name of the pilot or where he was going, have not been released. The FAA is investigating the crash.

The biggest upset in high school football last night…in 3A, 30th seeded Westlake beat Jena 27-20. Westlake will play Northwest who beat Avoyelles 40-28.

Top seed in class 5A West Monroe topped the Central Wildcats 51-15.

More prep scores from last night — In 3A, top seeded Sterlington pounded Baker 63-30.

Wossman fell to Iowa, 39-8. In 2A Welsh beat Springfield 55-7.

Last night was the open of the college basketball season. The Will Wade era at LSU got off to a winning start as the Tigers beat Alcorn State, 99-59. Louisiana Tech had no trouble against Texas Tyler, The Bulldogs winning 112-71. UL-Lafayette fell to Ole Miss 94-76. ULM fell to TCU, 83-73

The Pelicans return home for their next three games, beginning with the L.A. Clippers tonight.

The Saints will be in Buffalo tomorrow. New Orleans is seeking their seventh win in a row. During this six-game winning streak, New Orleans is averaging 140 yards on the ground.

Four Baton Rouge police officers have been placed on paid administrative leave following allegations of possible payroll fraud.  A source told WAFB TV that they include two sergeants.  The information comes on the heels of similar allegations involving the Louisiana State Police concerning three troopers.

Cassidy says the proposed legislation would help families and help businesses grow by cutting taxes and simplifying the tax code. He says a family of four would see a tax cut of over 14-hundred-dollars…

Two elderly people were killed after a logging truck struck their vehicle in Beauregard Parish Thursday. The driver of the log truck is 68-year-old Charles Davis of DeRidder. Davis was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.  State Police Sgt. James Anderson says everyone was wearing their seatbelts, but due to the magnitude of this accident, the safety measure did not help…

A jury in Rapides Parish found 17-year-old Donasty Cohen guilty of manslaughter in the death of her 27-day-old baby. District Attorney Phillip Terrell says the infant’s father, 17-year-old Kenneth Anderson, is currently in jail awaiting trial. He says Cohen will be sentenced on December 4th.

The coroner ruled 27-day-old Ashtyn’s death a homicide due to blunt force trauma to his body and head. Terrell says both parents were 16-years-old when the crime happened in 2015. He says Cohen was showed little emotion….

A longttime coach and referee in Jefferson Parish has been arrested again as a result of allegations stemming from a party involved with juveniled. 55-year-old Allen Joseph is accused of providing kids with alcohol and allowing them to become severely intoxicated. Joseph allegedly layed in bed with three of the drunk juveniles.

LSU is a 17-point favorite heading into tomorrow’s 11 AM kickoff against Arkansas. The Tigers are 6-3 on the season and coming off a two touchdown loss to Alabama, while Arkansas is just 1-and-4 in the SEC and barely beat Coastal Carolina last weekend.

The high school football playoffs start tonight. The top seed in Class 5A, West Monroe hosts the Central Wildcats. In Three-A, top seeded Sterlington hosts Baker. Third-seeded Jena will take on Westlake, while second seeded Wossman faces Iowa. In Two-A, Welsh is the umber one-seed and they’ll host Springfield.

The Pelicans got a season-high 34 points from Jrue Holiday last night, but it wasn’t enough as New Orleans lost to Toronto 122-118. The Pels host the Clippers tomorrow.

Today is the opening day for college basketball. Will Wade era begins at LSU as the Fighting Tigers host Alcorn State. Louisiana Tech hosts Texas-Tyler, UL Lafayette is at Ole Miss and ULM visits TCU.
