Governor Edwards and Louisiana Ag Commissioner Mike Strain will start a listening tour across several rural communities today.  The tour will allow members of the agricultural community an opportunity to ask questions and to discuss their concerns.  Strain says they want to know the challenges farmers face…

Black Friday is next week and retailers are gearing up for a busy shopping season. An October survey from Deloitte found that online holiday shopping is expected to beat in-store sales for the first time. But LSU Marketing Professor Dan Rice says brick and mortar stores can be still very profitable and retailers will do what they can to get shoppers into their stores.

Rice expects this year to be better for Louisiana retailers, especially in south Louisiana. Many consumers didn’t spend as much during the holidays, because they were recovering from the historic flooding.

Rice says big corporate stores like Wal-Mart and Best Buy opened up some Black Friday deals at the end of October. But he says other retailers like REI or Ikea, have decided not to open on Thanksgiving to impress consumers with their family values and encourage them to shop during other times of the season.

If you are wanting to know if the flu bug has invaded your neighborhood, a new phone app called Sickweather has been designed with you in mind.  Founder and CEO Graham Dodge says they use the public’s help to track when there’s an outbreak of various illnesses from the common cold to the flu…

Dodge says the app can be valuable in helping determine what symptoms you have or maybe why you are feeling a little under the weather…

Governor John Bel Edwards announced today two-thousand new jobs are in January of 2018. DXC is a Virginia based information technology company that will open in New Orleans. Edwards says LED estimates that another 2,257 indirect jobs will be created from this project with an average salary of 63-thousand dollars plus benefits and the economic benefits are unmatched.

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at LSU Health New Orleans Dr. Oren Tessler says bigger butts is the latest trend.  He says women look at Kim Kardashian and other famous celebrities and want to have a similar body. But he says there are some significant risks associated with the procedure.

LSU Athletics Director Joe Alleva says the elimination of tax breaks in the GOP tax reform bills could be disastrous for big-time collegiate athletics. Governor John Bel Edwards announced today two-thousand new jobs are coming when DXC Technology opens a digital transformation center in January of 2018 in New Orleans.  Louisiana will invest $25 million in higher education grants through the LSU, UL, and Technical and Community College Systems to ensure qualified workers can fill these new positions. Edwards says this project is one of the most significant economic development announcements in Louisiana history.

Reports indicate a Louisiana man was arrested trying to cross into North Korea.  The man was detained by South Korean forces before he could cross the Demilitarized Zone that separates the two countries.  The 58-year-old is identified as “A”.  The Washington Post says he was trying to enter North Korea for “political purposes.”

That’s according to LSU AgCenter Associate Professor Charlie Graham, who says their original projection for this year was around 15 million pounds of pecans…:

Officials are calling it the single largest jobs announcement in the city’s modern history. An exact location for the facility has yet to be decided, but it will be downtown. Average salaries of for those working there will be 63-thousand dollars.

LSU Atheltics Director Joe Alleva is raising concerns about a provision in the House GOP tax bill that ends a tax deduction for donating money for the right to purchase premium seating at university sporting events. Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards this afternoon is set to announce that a newly formed company that has bought parts of Hewlett-Packard will be relocating to New Orleans, according to The Advocate. The expansion will create 2,000 jobs, according to the report.
