On Friday, a man in Terrebonne Parish was fatally shot by a deputy who responded to a domestic dispute. On Saturday, a man in St. Tammany was killed by deputies after holding a woman hostage. Scharf says a question we need to look at as a state is, what is the level of training and what are the standards that govern the use of deadly force.

Monday night in Baton Rouge, a man was killed after an officer was asked to escort a DCFS case worker into a home. Scharf says a big topic that not many people look at is mental illness and how defunding many of services can increase the number of people killed by law enforcement.

The newest numbers from the Cost of Living Index for the third quarter of this year rank Monroe and Shreveport in the top for the most affordable cities to live in the Bayou State. President of North Louisiana Economic Partnership Scott Martinez says the consumer’s dollar goes farther in these markets.

A cost of living calculator is available at nlep.org to compare the cost of living and certain consumer items to determine which area is the cheapest to live within the 267 communities participating in the study. Martinez hopes the low cost of living in north Louisiana will convince companies to do business along the I-20 corridor.

The Cost of Living Index shows that if an individual earned 50-thousand dollars in Denver, Colorado, they would only need to early a little over 40-thousand in Shreveport and 43-thousand in Monroe. A Baton Rouge attorney has been arrested for the second time in as many months on child pornography charges.  36-year-old Victor Loraso of Covington is charged with 20 different counts involving possession and distribution sexual abuse images or videos of minors.  He was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail.  He was released last month on a 150-thousand-dollar bond.  The L-B-I Cyber Crime Unit,  Homeland Security Investigations, Louisiana State Police, and the Covington Police Department assisted in the investigation.

The LaFourche Parish Council is issuing a proclamation marking the 130^th anniversary of the Thibodaux Massacre. The incident occurred on November 23, 1887.  Next Thursday, there will be a moment of silence in Thibodaux to mark the anniversary of the slaughter. 1887 Memorial president John DeSantis hopes the event will raise awareness about a project he is involved with to locate the victims of the massacre and have them properly buried.  They know where they are at, they just need to raise the funds for the Going Home Project…

A man who spent nearly a half century in jail will be freed after his conviction is over turned.  65-year-old Wilbert Jones’ bail was set at two-thousand-dollars and is expected to be released tomorrow.  State District Court Judge Richard Anderson threw out his conviction after it was discovered authorities withheld “highly favorable” evidence that would have exonerated Jones in connection with a 1971 rape.

DXC Technology will create over 2,000 jobs after their digital transformation center opens in New Orleans.   Demographer Greg Rigamer says although it will take a while to create all the new jobs, we should see 300 jobs in 2018.  He says seasoned employees in the technology field will be needed but this is also a great opportunity to get many young people into the industry.

Lee says case workers usually have police officers come with them when they have a reason to fear for their safety or the safety of a child. A Grambling State student that was arrested last month after a double homicide has been indicted on two counts for first degree murder.  19-year-old Jaylin Wayne allegedly fatally shot 23-year-old Earl Andrews, a senior at Grambling, and 23-year-old Monquairious Caldwell.  The Lincoln Parish DA says they may seek the death penalty pending the final police report.
