With the decline in diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Cuba, any hope of exporting Louisiana goods is shrinking. A year ago, Governor John Bel Edwards and Ag Commissioner Mike Strain led a delegation from Louisiana to Cuba to strength the relationship. But now the U.S has ordered Cuban diplomats out of their embassy in Washington….:

Governor John Bel Edwards says Louisiana largely avoided any damage from Hurricane Nate over the weekend, as the system is labeled the fastest moving storm in the Gulf of Mexico. The National Weather Service said Nate’s movement at 28 mph over a 12-hour period Saturday, sets a new Gulf record for speed of a storm. The storm made landfall along the Mississippi coast, but Edwards said a shift of a mere 50 miles to the West would have brought damaging winds and life-threatening storm surges to the state.

Former Governor Buddy Roemer has released a memoir, published by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Press, about his early life in north Louisiana. Roemer was Governor of Louisiana from 1988 to 1992. He says he decided to get into politics in his preteen years after practicing his public speaking while working in the cotton fields…:

The active Hurricane Season has kept gas prices unusually high this time of year, and it remains true in the wake of Hurricane Nate. But AAA Fuel Analyst Don Redman says any increase in prices we see will be short lived:

The current statewide for a gallon of regular is $2.29, up about 5 cents from the prior week.

Diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Cuba, are declining, and Ag Commissioner Mike Strain hopes those can be restored soon. He says if the trade embargo with Cuba is lifted it could mean millions of dollars for the state and the ag industry…:

For now, Strain says he encourages the Trump administration to keep talking to Cuba.

State Police is investigating a fatal crash on I-10 eastbound near Butte La Rose in St. Martin Parish, where an 18-wheeler was engulfed in flames this morning. Officials confirmed one person was killed in the fiery crash. Traffic is still being diverted to I-49 Northbound, then to US 190 East. Troopers are advising motorists to avoid the area if possible, while emergency crews work to clear the scene as quickly and safely as possible.

The busy hurricane season is still affecting gas prices. The current statewide average for a gallon of regular is about $2.29, 5 cents higher than last week. That’s according to AAA Fuel Analyst Don Redman, who says normally we’re seeing big drops this time of year…:

Former LSU wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. with the New York Giants suffered a fractured left ankle during Sunday’s 27-22 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. It is the same ankle that Beckham injured during the preseason.

The Ragin Cajuns snapped a three-game losing streak by going on the road and beating Idaho 21-16. Head Coach Mark Hudspeth says his team never lost confidence…:

Now that Hurricane Nate is a memory for Louisiana, what will that mean for gas prices?  Oil rigs from Louisiana to Alabama were shut down and the industry hasn’t fully recovered from Hurricane Harvey in August.  Don Redman from Triple-A says any increase in prices we see will be short lived…

Refineries are also gearing up to switch from the summer blend to winter grade gasoline, which Redman says could affect prices…

Regardless of the storm, Redman says drivers are paying more on average than the last couple of years…

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement’s New Orleans office estimated less than 15 percent of the oil production in the Gulf of Mexico was shutdown before Tropical Storm Nate, providing over 254-thousand barrels of oil per day.

Former Governor Buddy Roemer has released a memoir, published by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Press, of his early life in north Louisiana called, Scopena: A Memoir of Home. In the book, Roemer shares with his readers what is was like to grow up on his family’s cotton plantation in Bossier Parish. He says the story is really about his father and mother, Budgie and Adeline Roemer.

The hurricane warning for the Metro New Orleans area and Lake Pontchartrain has been changed to a tropical storm warning. The hurricane watch for Lake Maurepas has been discontinued. National Weather Service Meterologist Mike Shields says storm surge is expected to be Louisiana’s biggest problem, especially in St. Bernard and Plaquemines Parishes.

Shields says there is also a small threat for tornadoes. He says a turn towards the north-northeast is expected later tonight, followed by a motion toward the north east.

Hurricane Nate has made landfall at the mouth of the Mississippi River with maximum sustained winds at 85 miles per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center. The hurricane warning for Metropolitan New Orleans area and Lake Pontchartrain has been changed to a tropical storm warning. Meterologist Mike Shields…

Shields says Nate is expected to make a second landfall along the Mississippi coast later tonight. A turn towards the north-northeast is expected later tonight, followed by a motion toward the NE.

The National Hurricane Center says Nate has made landfall at the mouth of the Mississippi River with maximum sustained winds at 85 miles per hour. National Weather Service Meterologist Mike Shields says Nate is heading north at around 20 miles per hour. He says this hurricane will make a second landfall later tonight along the Mississippi coast.

18:30 Hurricane Nate Update October 7th

Hurricane Nate remains a Category One Hurricane affecting residents in Southeast Louisiana.  Forecasters feel it will make landfall later tonight possibly as far east as Mississippi. The National Hurricane Center’s David Zelinsky says a slight direction change could make all the difference in the storm surge…

Alek Krautman with the National Weather Service says areas along the Gulf Coast in South Louisiana and west of the Mississippi River should still be prepared for storm surge of up to six feet until the storm passes…

A curfew for New Orleans will go into effect at 7 tonight.  Forecasters feel the storm will be through Louisiana by early Sunday morning…
