State Police is investigating a fatal crash on I-10 eastbound near Butte La Rose in St. Martin Parish, where an 18-wheeler was engulfed in flames this morning. Master Trooper Brooks David (Dah-veed) says emergency crews needed several hours to clean up the mess which included a load of potatoes:

Officials confirmed one person was killed in the fiery crash.

Legendary LSU Quarterback Y-A Tittle has passed away at the age of 90. The LSU Hall of Famer died of natural causes. Tittle played for the Tigers during the mid 1940s and set five records, including passing yards in a career, touchdown passes and total offense. In the pros, Tittle guided the New York Giants to three consecutive title game appearances.

After suffering the program’s first loss against a team from the Sun Belt Conference, the LSU Tigers bounced back with a 17-16 victory over Florida in the Swamp. Some analysts said the LSU football team was soft after the loss to Troy, and Coach O said they took it personal…:

There have been three landfalls of named storms on Louisiana’s coast line. Tropical Storm Cindy in June, Hurricane Harvey in August and Hurricane Nate crossed over Plaquemines Parish on Saturday. Keim says Nate didn’t do much damage in Louisiana, but it was one of fastest storms to ever cross the Gulf of Mexico at 25-miles-per-hour.

Former LSU and pro Hall of Fame quarterback, Y.A. Tittle, passed away Sunday night at the age of 90, the school confirmed today. Tittle was a two-time All SEC quarterback when he played for LSU. He enjoyed his greatest team success by leading the Giants to three straight Eastern Conference titles, passing for 86 touchdowns between 1961 and 1963.

I-10 East At Butte LaRose is now open, after crews worked to clear a mess left by a fiery fatal crash involving an 18 wheeler hauling potatoes. State Police say the driver of the big rig drove off the interstate into a bridge and traveled down the road before the truck overturned and burst into flames. The driver, who died in the incident, is not being identified at this time.

The LSU football team blocked all of the negativity surrounding the program to get a much needed win on Saturday as the Tigers knocked off the Florida Gators 17-16. Head Coach Ed Orgeron says his team grew closer during a difficult week of criticism….

The Tigers have a big game coming up on Saturday as the Bayou Bengals host Auburn.

The Ragin Cajuns have a short week of prepation as they get ready for their next game on Thursday night against Texas State. UL Lafayette beat Idaho 21-16 last Saturday and Coach Mark Hudspeth says his defense came to play, after giving up 40 or more points in their four previous games…

The Saints rested yesterday while their next opponent, the Detroit Lions, lost a physical game to the Carolina Panthers 27-24. Lions QB Matthew Stafford got beat up in this one and finished with a cut on his left hand and tape arounnd his feet and ankles. Stafford has been sacked six teams in each of his last two games.

Former LSU Tiger Odell Beckham is done for the season after breaking his ankle in a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The Giants are also done for the season as they are 0-5 on the season.

Another former Tiger, Leonard Fournette rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns as Jacksonville defeated a struggling Steelers team 31-9. Jacksonsville and Houston are tied for first in the NFC South, but the Texans are without star JJ Watt for the rest of the season, who suffered a leg fracture.

This past weekend, Grambling State beat Prairie View A-and-M for a fourth consecutive season, winning the contest 34-21. Grambling is ranked 19th in the latest FCS Coaches Poll. McNeese State is ranked 21st and Nicholls is ranked 23rd.

The Lafayette Police Department held a news conference today to talk about ways the community can help the family of slain Corporal Michael Middlebrook who was killed in action last Sunday. They said The Community Foundation of Acadiana is accepting monetary donations for the City of Lafayette Police Department Fallen Heroes Fund at their website cf-acadiana.org. Middlebrook was a husband and father of three children.

The active hurricane season means we could keep seeing an increase in gas prices…:

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise of Metairie told Chuck Todd of NBC’s Meet the Press that he opposes new gun control legislation. Scalise was seriously wounded last June when a gunman opened fire on group of lawmakers getting ready for a charity baseball game. Scalise says there are already limits on gun ownership and believes those laws need to be enforced.

Former Governor Buddy Roemer has released a memoir through University of Louisiana at Lafayette Press called Scopena a Memoir of Home. It tells the story of his childhood and growing up on a on a cotton plantation in Bossier Parish. Roemer says his father gave he and his siblings great guidance during the Civil Rights Movement….
