Coming off of two wins, LSU fans are excited to travel to Oxford, Mississippi to watch the Tigers take on the Rebels. LSU Alumni Association Senior Director of Alumni Engagement Sally Stiel says they have a sold out trip and are already on the road where they will stay at a casino hotel in Tunica, Mississippi.

Kickoff is at 6:15 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Stiel says the momentum is up after the Tigers’ win last weekend to Auburn. She says plenty of activities will be waiting for the Traveling Tigers when they arrive in Oxford.

Stiel says after the tailgate party, fans will gather into the stadium to watch the Tigers take on the Rebels. She says the Traveling Tigers are also planning to travel to the next away games.

An LSU Health Sciences Center doctor says a clinical study of veterans dealing with brain injuries and disorders has shown a reduction in suicides using hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Dr. Paul Harch has been studying the effects of the therapy on 30 veterans since 2008.  He knew some symptoms would be reduced, but was surprised at the final results…

After H-BOT, 52-percent of military patients no longer met the criteria for the diagnosis of PTSD.   Harch says the therapy helps to increase oxygen levels to treat the disease…

He has also treated professional football players and after seeing success with the therapy presented the NFL with his findings…

It is estimated that 300-thousand military veterans who return from service in Afghanistan or Iraq have PTSD or major depression…

The salmonella outbreak in Caldwell Parish has state health officials are urging Louisiana residents to be careful of cross contamination when preparing food. Dr. David Holcombe with the state Office of Public Health says poultry is the most common cause of salmonella.

There are 49 confirmed cases of salmonella in Caldwell Parish and 31 people were hospitalized after eating jambalaya at charity softball game. Holcombe says the symptoms of the gastrointestinal illness are abdominal cramping, fever and diarrhea. He says make sure you cook chicken thoroughly and don’t let it sit out.

Holcombe suggests using a meat thermometer when cooking meat and poultry. He says another big problem associated with salmonella poisoning is inadequate refrigeration.

Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise is hopeful that President Trump’s tax reform package will be passed, giving relief to millions of American’s pocketbooks and corporations.  The House Majority Whip says the Republicans reform proposal will simplify the tax code bringing a couple of benefits…

Scalise says their plan would help a somewhat stagnant economy take off.  He cites a recent study which shows there would be a large increase in take home pay…

The Louisiana Department of Health believes jambalaya contaminated with salmonella resulted in 49 cases of gastrointestinal illnes in Caldwell Parish. Thirty-one people have been hospitalized. Doctor David Holcombe, with the state office of public health, says one person who showed symptoms associated with Salmonella poisioning died, but it’s still unclear if that is the cause of his death…

Holcombe says 300 plates of this contaminated jambalaya were served at a charity softball event and more cases are still possible.

Organized Greek activities at LSU are not allowed to have alcohol at their functions until at least January. That’s the decision of LSU President F King Alexander, who last week decided to allow Greek organiziations to have on-campus social events with alcohol. But after receiving cornerning reports, he’s reversed that decision.

NOAA’s long-range outlook calls for a warmer and drier winter for Louisiana. State Climatologist Barry Keim says it’s been warm and dry for much of October, so it looks like that trend will continue…

Another cold front is approaching Louisiana and there’s a good chance for rain this weekend and high temperatures will fall into the 70s on Monday.

Dr. Craig Greene will be sworn in next week as the Public Service Commissioner who will represent the Baton Rouge, Lafayette, and Houma areas. Greene, who has never held political office before, explained why he ran for the position.

The state’s health department says it appears salmonella in a chicken and sausage jambalya served at a fundraiser caused dozens of people to become ill and it may have killed one person in Caldwell Parish. Doctor David Holcombe with the state office of public health says they have 49 people who have been diagnosed with gastrointenstinal illness and 31 were hospitalized. Holcombe says over 300 plates of jambalya were served so more cases may develop, but he says salmonella is difficult to spread from person to person….

An autopsy will determine determine the cause of the death.

An alcohol ban has been placed back on LSU fraternities and sororities. That decision comes from university president F King Alexander who says he’s learned many Greek organiziations have not taken it serious enough the restrictions that were placed on them in the wake of the death of a Phi Delta Theta who died in a suspected hazing incident.

Pineville Deputy Police Chief Darrell Basco says Sonnier was a known acquaintance of White and the two were together at the time of her death…

For the second consecutive day, the Saints only had two players on their injury report, offensive tackle Terron Armstead and wide receiver Willie Snead, but they are expected to play Sunday against Green Bay. Packers have 14 players on their injury report, including linebacker Ahmad Brooks.

LSU Football Coach Ed Orgeron said on his radio show last night that he antcipates Toby Weathersby will play against the Ole Miss Rebels. Weathersby missed last Saturday’s game with an injury he sustained in the win over Florida.

The Ragin Cajuns are in action tonight against Arkansas State. UL Lafayette is looking for two victories in a row on Thursday nights. They beat Texas State last week. Louisiana beat A-S-U last year 24-19, but Cajuns Coach Mark Hudspeth says the Red Wolves are a better team this year

The big game in the SWAC this week is 17th ranked Grambling hosting Alcorn State. Both teams are undefeated in league play. These two teams have met in the SWAC championship the last two seasons.

A man on trial in the death of a New Orleans Police officer has been declared incompetent to stand trial today.  Travis Boys rubbed feces on his face after entering the courtroom for his jury  trial yesterday.  Prosecution experts say it was a stint for him to avoid trial.  The judge ordered Boys to be evaluated and if needed medicated after declaring him incompetent.

State health officials suspect Jambalaya as the cause of an outbreak of Salmonella poisoning in Caldwell Parish.  Dr. David Holcombe with the State Office of Public Health says there are 49 confirmed cases of a gastrointestinal illness with 31 people hospitalized. He says salmonella is associated with chicken and eggs.

Holcombe says they know that 300 plates of Jambalaya were served at a softball charity event over the weekend. He says one person who showed symptoms associated with Salmonella poisoning died but it is still unclear if that is what caused his death.

Holcombe says very rarely will salmonella travel into the blood causing sepsis and eventually death. He also notes salmonella is difficult to spread from person to person.

LSU Shreveport Associate Professor of Political Science Jeffery Sadow expects they will support the removal. He says the parish has kept no official record of who currently owns the land where the monument stands so this could create problems…

Jackson Parish’s largest private employer has announced plans to upgrade the WestRock paper mill in Hodge. State Representative Jack MacFarland says if the facility closed down, it would be catastrophic, since the mill also provides needed utilities…
