The Louisiana National Guard soldiers originally scheduled to Florida to help with recovery from Hurricane Irma, have been ordered to stand down. The 922 Engineering company was to be deployed to help with technical issues and clearing roads was told their help, while appreciated, is no longer needed after Florida officials completed a more comprehensive assessment of the damage.

After 9-11, Louisianans raised 1.2 million dollars as part of the “Bucks for Trucks” campaign to build new firetrucks for New York City. Jeff Palermo has more on where those trucks are now…:

Saints fans are down in the dumps today, as New Orleans struggled in a Monday Night Football loss to the Vikings. The Black and Gold had trouble scoring touchdowns after getting into the redzone, and quarterback Drew Brees threw for just 291 yards and one TD. So for the fifth time in the last six years, the Saints start the season with a loss. They host the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots on Sunday.

16 years ago, Louisianans donated money to purchase a new firetruck for the New York City following 9-11. It was enough to build four new trucks at Ferrera Fire Apparatus in Livingston Parish. Former owner, Chris Ferrera says one truck was actually sent to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and is currently in use by the Louisiana Fire Marshal’s Office…:

Nicholls State Wide Receiver Damion Jeanpiere has been named Southland Offensive Player of the Week. Jeanpiere had five catches for 174 yards as the Colonels nearly upset Texas A&M on Saturday.

Grambling’s Martez Carter had 206 yards of total offense in the Tigers 23-10 win over Northwestern State and the senior from Monroe was named as the SWAC offensive player of the week. Carter had 138 yards on the ground and two touchdowns.

Thibodaux Police have arrested a man who they found passed out behind the wheel in the drive-through of a restaurant. They say 37-year-old John Sewell Jr allegedly tried to drive off when cops woke him up, but his key had already been removed by officers. The man apparently told detectives he was tired and high. He was booked for Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Kaplan Police Chief Boyd Adams is under arrest for allegedly stealing money from the department. State Police allege Adams used nearly $7000 in funds for himself.

A popular bar for LSU students to attend is apologizing after pictures surfaced on social media that showed a noose hanging from the ceiling and cups with a Blue Confederate flag on them were handed out to patrons. Reggie’s Bar issued a statement that says they apologize to anyone offended.
