Another Saints season is off to a rough start, as the Black and Gold lost to Minnesota 29-19 last night. New Orleans hosts the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots on Sunday, but coach Sean Payton says the mistakes made last night need to be corrected…

Some of the biggest mistakes took place in pass coverage as the Saints allowed Vikings Quarterback Sam Bradford to throw for 346 yards and a touchdown.

In other NFL news…the Buffalo Bills have signed former LSU wide receiver Malachi Dupre to their practice roster. And the Packers have released another former Tiger, defensive lineman Ricky Jean Francois

In LSU’s 45-10 win over Chattanooga, quarterback Danny Etling was 8-of-14 for 227 yards and a score. He connected on five passes of 25 yards or more. But Head Coach Ed Orgeron says LSU could have been more productive through the air, if Etling was more accurate….

ULM Football Coach Matt Viator plans to start junior Garrett Smith at quarterback in Saturday’s home opener against Southern Miss. Viator says sophomore Caleb Evans will also play too as the competition between the two QBs remains tight.

Recovery continues in Calcasieu Parish after Tropical Storm Harvey left major flood damage in some areas. OEP Director Dick Gremillion says in the days before the storm made landfall in Calcasieu, a torrential downpour left nearly 500 houses with some water inside. He says flooding also occurred when the Sabine River came out of its banks…:

Gremillion says they are still waiting to find out if Calcasieu flood victims will be available for federal assistance.

The state might get out of its contract with BRF, which operates state owned hospitals in Shreveport and Monroe. Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne says BRF is violating the contract that’s currently in place and they have 45 days to correct the problems…

LSU Head Football Coach Ed Orgeron has signed an advertising deal with Baton Rouge-based Raising Cane’s. Orgeron will be featured in commercials, billboards and in-restaurant signage for the fast food restaurant that specializes in chicken fingers. Former LSU Head Coach Les Miles had a similar agreement with Cane’s for eight years.

The Edwards Administration gives the private operator of two state owned hospitals, BRF,45 days to correct alleged violations of a contract. Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne says the state spoke with Ochsner Health System, which could help BRF run the hospitals…

BRF says they anticipate resolving the contract disagreement without being ousted and they’ll use legal action if removed as operator of University Health in Shreveport and University Health Conway in Monroe.

Attorney General Jeff Landry says Lousiaina will receive nearly seven million dollars as part of a multi-state settlement with Mylan, which manufacturers EpiPens. Landry says Mylan knowingly overcharged taxpayers for Epipens dispensed to Medicaid beneficiaries.

Recovery is underway in Calcasieu Parish after Tropical Storm Harvey left major flood damage in some areas. Dick Gremillion, Director of the Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, says while the destruction is not as bad as Texas, 800 to a thousand structures in Calcasieu sustained water damage. He says they are waiting to see if they will be declared a Federal Disaster Area.

If declared a federal disaster area that opens the door for flood victims to receive federal assistance. Gremillion says in the days before Harvey made landfall in Calcasieu, a torrential downpour left nearly 500 houses with some water inside. He says flooding also occurred when the Sabine River came out of its banks.

Gremillion says some homes in the parish have now flooded twice in the last two years. He says homeowners who are able to reach their houses have begun the gutting out process.

Louisiana Lead Ambassador with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network Amber Stevens says they will ask lawmakers to increase federal funding for cancer research.

Stevens says they are asking to raise the funding for cancer research to 36 billion dollars, a two billion dollar increase. She says they also want to improve the quality of life for these patients and are urging them to support palliative care and hospice education training.

Stevens says colorectal cancer is the second most common cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. and fixing a current glitch in the Medicare system could save lives.

When it comes to recovery from natural disasters, much of the nation’s attention is focused on Texas and Florida. But between 800 to 1,000 homes sustained flood damage in Calcasieu Parish from Tropical Storm Harvey. Calcasieu’s Director of Homeland Secuirty and Emergency Preparedness, Dick Gremillion, says many of the homes have been gutted out….

Saints fans are down in the dumps today, as New Orleans struggled in a Monday Night Football loss to the Vikings. The Black and Gold had trouble scoring touchdowns after getting into the redzone, and quarterback Drew Brees threw for just 291 yards and one TD. So for the fifth time in the last six years, the Saints start the season with a loss.

Another Saints season is off to a rough start. New Orleans had trouble scoring touchdowns after getting into the redzone and Vikings Quarterback Sam Bradford picked apart the Saints defense for 346 yards and three touchdowns in the Vikings 29-19 victory last night. Head Coach Sean Payton….

Bad news on the injury front as well. Starting right tackle Zach Strief left the game with a leg injury and he reportedly suffered an MCL sprain and is expected to miss a few weeks.

During last night’s game, ESPN caught Adrian Peterson and Sean Payton having a verbal exchange on the sidelines, but both Payton and Peterson downplayed the incident. Peterson had just 18 yards on six carries.

LSU is anticipating a hostile crowd for this Saturday’s SEC contest between the Tigers and Mississippi State. The Bulldogs are also 2-0 on the year. Head Coach Ed Orgeron says he has a plan on how to practice for all of the cowbells they’ll hear on Saturday night…

LSU will also spend this week trying to fix their field goal situation. Jack Gonsoulin and Connor Culp each missed field goals from 40-plus yards out last week.

Louisiana Tech has its first road game of the season this Saturday as the Bulldogs visit Western Kentucky The Hilltoppers have won 13 straight conference home games and they’re 21-2 in their last 23 games against CUSA opponents. The two losses have been against Louisiana Tech. Western Kentucky beat Tech 58-44 in last year’s league title game.

New Orleans will look to avoid an 0-2 start when they host New England on Sunday.

After 9-11 , former Governor Mike Foster started the “Bucks for Trucks” campaign, where Louisianans donated money to purchase a new truck for the New York City Fire Department. Enough money was raised to build four firetrucks at Ferrera Fire Apparatus in Livingston Parish. Former owner, Chris Ferrera, says all of the trucks are still in use 16 years later…:

The fourth truck is being used by the State Fire Marshal’s office in Baton Rouge.

Kaplan Police Chief Boyd Adams has posted bail since he was arrested by State Police on theft and malfeasance in office charges. The arrest was the result of a legislative auditor’s investigation that looked into 19-thousand dollars in police department funds. Auditor Roger Harris….

Harris says they believe Adams used about seven-thousand dollars in public money for personal purposes.

The Shreveport City Council this afternoon will consider whether the city should move forward on a proposed 100-million dollar mixed-used complex along Cross Bayou. The mayor has pledged to commit 30-million dollars and Tyler Comeaux says the city can handle that investment…
