The Livingston Parish Coroner has released the autopsy findings for the Baton Rouge massage therapist found dead in a vacant building. It indicates 24-year-old Kayla Ann Denham died of blunt force trauma to the head associated with strangulation. Bond has been upgraded to $250-thousand for the murder suspect, 25-year-old Christopher Landry.

In Jefferson Davis Parish, three Jennings men have been cited by Wildlife and Fisheries agents for the illegal killing of two alligators. LDWF spokesman Adam Einck says one of the men posted a video of the incident on Facebook which is how they found out…:

24-year-old Rhett Guidry, 19-year-old Dodie Bouley, and 23-year-old Kyle Thibodaux were issued citations including taking alligators during a closed season and hunting from a moving vehicle.

Stoops will leave as the winningest coach in OU Sooner history with 190 wins. Offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley is set to take over as head coach.

The LSU football team landed a big verbal commitment from an offensive tackle Wednesday. East Ascension High’s Cameron Wire pledged to the Tigers in a Tweet. In the 2017 class, Wire is ranked as the 23rd-best player in the state, according to 247Sports.com.

Former Airline High School star O.J. Smith announced he plans to transfer from Alabama. The redshirt junior defensive tackle out of Bossier City said he decided to open up recruiting.

The Saints announce their minicamp practices from June 13th to 15th will be open to the public at the team’s training facility in Metairie.

With only two days left in the legislative session, lawmakers need to come to an agreement on a $28 billion spending plan for next fiscal year. Political Analyst Bernie Pinsonat says the House does not want to spend all the money recognized by the Revenue Estimating Conference but the Senate does. He says it’s all about negotiations now.

Governor John Bel Edwards has voiced his disapproval of the House’s latest budget plan.

Two people were shot in Eunice when they went after a man who allegedly shot their 7-year-old relative on accident during a drive by shooting. The two men and the juvenile are recovering in a local hospital, but Police Chief Randy Fontenot says this may not be the end of it.

Budget negotiations continue at the Capitol, but the House and Senate say they plan to fully fund TOPS next fiscal year. Higher Ed Commissioner Joe Rallo says education leaders are still holding their breath until the session ends this evening. He says funding TOPS gives students some certainty, but its possible scholarship recipients will pay some money towards tuition costs.

TOPS was decoupled from tuition increases during last year’s legislative session. Rallo says all of the uncertainty surrounding TOPS and higher ed funding in Louisiana could impact enrollment numbers. He says other states like Mississippi, Texas, and Alabama are trying to recruit Louisiana students.

President Donald Trump fired Comey last month, amid the investigation that alleges Russia hacked into Democratic Party emails, which may have helped Mr. Trump win the election. Kennedy says we have to get to the bottom of what Russia did during the election.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said Russian has never been involved in hacking at the state level and that no one can influence elections. But Kennedy says that’s not true at all.

Erwin says a special session is imminent as the state is facing a looming fiscal cliff as 1.3 billion dollars in temporary taxes are set to expire next year. He says the most significant legislation to come out of this session was the reduction of sentences for some non-violent criminals and the expansion of parole and probation opportunities.

Erwin says it’s very hard to get anything accomplished in an environment like this with the GOP dominated House and the Democratic governor disagreeing with most everything. But he says one good thing that came out of this session is the passage of a resolution that forms a taskforce to examine the TOPS Scholarship program.

Three Jennings men have been arrested for allegedly shooting alligators from the bed of a pickup truck. Adam Einck with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says 24-year-old Rhett Guidry, 19-year-old Dodie Bouley, and 23-year-old Kyle Thibodaux were cited for illegally hunting gators, among other things.

The men were also cited for taking frogs using illegal methods, as they were shooting the frogs as well. Einck says one of the men posted a video of the incident on Facebook. He says LDWF agents were informed about the post and made contact with the suspects.

Einck says all three men face up to $2,500 in fines, as well as a $751 restitution fee for the replacement value of the alligators. He says they could also face jail time if convicted.

A measure heading to the governor’s desk prohibits colleges from asking students about their criminal history on an application. Syrita Steib-Martin was incarcerated at 19. Once released, she applied to the University of New Orleans where she checked the felon box on her application.

For the second time this season, LSU and Mississippi State will take on each other with a lot on the line. The Tigers swept the Bulldogs in a three-game series to finish off the regular season. During the weekend in Starkville, the Tigers clinched an SEC West championship and an SEC Title. Coach Paul Mainieri says what happened in May shouldn’t impact what happens this weekend….

1998 was the only other time that these two teams have met in the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers beat the Bulldogs in the College World Series 10 to 8 that year. Game one of the Super Regional series is Saturday at 8 PM.

Some shocking news in college football today, at the age of 56, Oklahoma Head Coach Bob Stoops announced his retirment effectively and 33-year-old offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley will take over. Stoops says health is not the reason he’s stepping down. He just believes the timing was right for Riley to take over the program.

LSU Head Football Coach Ed Orgeron says outside linebacker Arden Key has returned to the football program, but he’s not yet healthy after undergoing surgery on his shoulder last week. Coach Ed Orgeron says it’s too early to tell if Key will be ready for fall camp.

Game times have been set for three more Louisiana Tech football games this season. Tech’s conference opener at Western Kentucky will kickoff at 6 PM on September 16th. The Bulldogs-Southern Miss game in Ruston will kick-off at 6 PM on October 21st and Tech’s home contest versus Lane Kiffin and Florida Atlantic on November 11th will begin at 2:30 PM.

Some have said statements like that from elected officials could be used as propaganda by terrorists to fuel radicalization. But the St. Landry Parish Republican isn’t buying that…:

Bond was raised this morning from $175,000 to $250,000.
