LSU’s Alex Lange has been named the starting pitcher for the College World Series opener against Florida State. Lange is 9-5 with 2.92 ERA. In 2015, Lange struck out 10 in a complete game victory over Cal State Fullerton in the College World Series. The office of House Majority Whip Steve Scalise has issued a statement on the Louisiana Congressman’s condition following this morning’s mass shooting outside Washington. It says Scalise was shot in the hip and is currently undergoing surgery in stable condition. The suspected gunman has been described as a middle aged white male and police say he is in custody. The shooting happened at the Republican congressional baseball team’s early morning practice.

The full House is set to debate the spending plan approved by the Appropriations Committee which spends more than the original bill, but still less than what the Governor wants. Chairman Cameron Henry says he hopes their version of HB1 shows that the House GOP is willing to negotiate, but he doesn’t expect the same from the other side…:

The Department of Transportation announces a contractor has been selected for the I-10 widening project in East Baton Rouge and Ascension Parishes. Governor John Bel Edwards has issued a statement in response to House Majority Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana being shot in Alexandria, Virginia early this morning. Edwards says it appears to be an outrageous, cowardly attack on one of our own. Many Congressmen were reportedly also hurt in the mass shooting. President Donald Trump tweeted Scalise was badly injured, but will fully recover. We’re told the shooter is in custody.

The House Appropriations Committee has approved a 28-billion dollar budget plan that now leaves $100 million on the table, as opposed to $206 million. But Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne says the responsible way to deal with the budget is to appropriate the dollars that are available…:

State Police is investigating a deadly shooting involving cops in Baton Rouge. They say preliminary investigations indicate that, during a traffic stop late last night, officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department shot a passenger who got out of the vehicle with a gun. The cops were not injured, and the person with the weapon is dead. The investigation is ongoing.

Although increasing slightly nationally, gas prices are dropping in 30 states and Louisiana is one of those seeing a decline in prices at the pump. That’s according to AAA spokesperson Don Redman, who says prices are slightly lower than at this time last year.

The statewide average of $2.14 a gallon is well below the forecast for June of $2.40 a gallon. Redman says how low it will go is hard to predict. He says we’re seeing higher demand like we typically do for summer, but refineries have kept up with the demand.

Redman says he expects the statewide average to remain above $2 a gallon throughout the summer. He says the price of gas is about 20 cents cheaper in Louisiana than the national average. He says they’re already seeing drivers take advantage of lower prices at the pump.

Matherne says the DSNAP program offers assistance to people who need help purchasing groceries after a disaster. She says when pre-registering, families will need the names, dates of birth, and social security numbers of all household members. She says workers will ask for more information at the DSNAP site in the event of a hurricane.

Matherne says in the event of a disaster, people should go to the DSNAP site in their parish, which will be listed on the DCFS website. She says people can pre-register at dcfs.la.gov or call 1-888-LA-HELP-U. She says there are some people who do not need to register.
