Tough loss last night for the LSU baseball team that squandered a 5-1 lead to South Alabama as the Jaguars scored three runs in top of the ninth inning to complete the comeback and defeat LSU 7-6 at The Box. The loss drops LSU to 32-17 overall. The Tigers will enjoy a day off before hosting Auburn in a pivotal Southeastern Conference series set to begin Thursday.

UL-Lafayette picked up a 3-1 victory over visiting Louisiana Tech in midweek action last night. The Ragin Cajuns return to action tonight against another in-state rival — McNeese State. The Diamond Dogs host Marshall for a three-game set that kicks off Friday.

Northwestern State had a rough time on the road against Little Rock who dominated the Demons 13-1.

Also in action tonight, Lamar is at Southern, Grambling is at Alabama and Nicholls State hosts Jackson State.

New LSU men’s basketball coach Will Wade has completed the hiring of his assistant coaches by adding Bill Armstrong to his staff. Armstrong spent the past 11 seasons as an assistant coach at Ole Miss. Wade says Armstrong’s knowledge of the Southeastern Conference makes him a great addition…:

The NFL announced the preseason schedule for all 32 teams in the league Tuesday. The Saints will open the exhibition season week 1 on the road against the Cleveland Browns on Thursday, August 10.

Minors seeking  an abortion would be required  to have proof of identification from their parents before terminating a pregnancy under a bill before a Senate committee today. Franklinton Senator Beth Mizell says a photo ID of parents is required before high school report cards are handed out. She says it makes sense parents know their child is having an abortion:

Mizell says under current law, an abortion clinic only requires a notarized statement from the parents or guardian, or a court order signed by a judge. She says the expectation is that the signature means the parent knows what’s going on…:

A study from WalletHub finds Louisiana is the worst state to be a police officer. Website analyst Jill Gonzales says they measured the quality of life and job hazards, which really brought Louisiana down in the ratings.

Gonzales says not only is being a police officer a dangerous job, it also doesn’t pay well. She says the Bayou State is ranked 49th for the median income for law enforcement officers.

The report also finds Louisiana has an extremely high violent crime and property crime rates. Gonzales says criminals keep Louisiana police officers and the pay for law enforcement officers is next to last in the country

A bill that would ban so-called sanctuary cities fails to get the necessary votes to pass the full House. The bill included a fee which is why 70 votes were needed to pass. The legislation is aimed at New Orleans, which has a policy that prohibits officers from questioning the status of individuals who commit or report a crime. Edwards began the session pushing several different tax proposals, because one-point-three billion dollars in temporary taxes are set to expire in July of 2018. One proposal called for reducing income taxes for 90-percent of the state’s wage earners, but Erwin says many legislators are concerned about increasing taxes on businesses…

The minimum age is at least 18 under the proposed law and it also calls for establishments to undergo human trafficking training. Lake Charles Senator Ronnie Johns still supports his bill even with significant changes.

Chief Deputy with the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office, Chris Ivey, says deputies discovered this after arresting Maria Joseph for prostitution. He says Joseph told police, Arthur Phillips picked her up…:

There’s conflicting reports on when Saints center Max Unger will return to the field. Unger recently had surgery on an injured foot. Yesterday it was reported that he won’t be back until after the regular season starts but Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reports he’s spoken with a source that says Unger could be healthy enough to play in the preseason.

The Saints have announced days and times for the preseason schedule. New Orleans will kick-off exhibition play on Thursday August 10th at Cleveland. They’ll visit the Los Angeles Chargers for a 7 PM kickoff on August 20th. The two home preseason games will be August 26th against Houston and August 31st versus Baltimore. Both games will be 7:00 kick-offs.

In college football news…incoming LSU freshman defensive tackle Tyler Shelvin has lost about 60 pounds, thanks to no longer putting rice in his gumbo.

The 10th ranked LSU baseball team continues its eight-game homestand tonight as they host South Alabama. The Jaguars lead the overall series between the two teams, 24-15 and South Al already has a couple of wins against SEC teams this season, Mississippi State and Auburn.

Louisiana Tech beat the Cajuns in 13 innings earlier this season in Ruston. Tonight the two teams meet in Lafayette. Also tonight, Northwestern State visits Little Rock. The Demons are looking for their third straight win.

The changes reverted the age limit to work as an exotic dancer back to 18 instead of 21, but mandates were added that would mean strip clubs have to train how to spot human trafficking. Lake Charles Senator Ronnie Johns says his bill’s intent isn’t changing…:

Last year the legislature passed a law that mandated strippers working at an exotic club must be 21, but the law was overturned after a successful lawsuit filed by three dancers and the ACLU.  Shreveport Senator Greg Tarver is not a big fan of the 21-year-old requirement….:

Opponents have also argued that this law would cause young women to lose their jobs and income, and might be drawn into prostitution.
