The US Attorney in Baton Rouge, Walt Green, has resigned at the request of US Attorney General Jeff Sessions. East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore says it’s typical for a new administration to want a change of leadership, but he still sent a letter to President Trump asking him to keep Green in office.

Moore says the resignation could delay the Alton Sterling investigation.

Baton Rouge police say a teenage boy is dead after he was fatally shot at an apartment complex on his birthday. The victim is identified as 16-year-old Darius Plummer of Baton Rouge. Authorities say a suspect is behind bars in connection with the shooting. It’s been reported that the unnamed man was picked up on I-10 in Lake Charles, and it’s believed he was trying to flee the state.

An LSU study seeks to reduce Louisiana’s childhood obesity rate. Dr. Amanda Staiano with the Pennington Biomedical Research Center says they want to look at every aspect of a child’s life because there’s more to health than just diet and exercise.

Kids who bring toy guns to school could face charges, if a bill filed for the regular session wins approval from the legislature. Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington, who says pretend guns cause panic and chaos in schools.

A spokesperson for the governor’s office calls it just a rumor that the leader of Louisiana State Police, Colonel Mike Edmonson, will step down. Speculation is building Edmonson will resign as several State Troopers are to be subpoenad as part of an investigation into illegal campaign contributions involving the Louisiana State Troopers Association and there’s also a probe into taxpayer funded side trips by four state troopers.

A bill that’s been filed for next month’s regular session calls for a possible prison sentence and-or fine for a student who brings toy gun to school. She says the goal of the TIGER Kids research study is to learn how much physical activity kids are getting, what they’re eating, and what can be done to improve their health.

Staiano says they’re trying to tailor programs to help kids make healthy choices because one size doesn’t fit all when it comes to losing weight. She says they’re also interested in other aspects of kids’ lives because it’s not just diet and exercise that affect a person’s health.

Staiano says less than 10-percent of children are getting the recommended amount of physical activity every day. She hopes the technology they use in the study can help them encourage kids to be more active.

The body camera footage shows Few with his hands up inside the vehicle before Stafford and the other Marshal, Norris Greenhouse, Jr. began firing. Stafford is charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. Meche says Stafford claims he started shooting in self-defense.

There has also been talk that a third shooter could be involved. Meche expects Stafford’s and Greenhouse’s defense attorneys could bring that up during the trial.

East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore is disappointed because he says Green is the kind of guy you want in a leadership position.

Moore says Green is an Independent appointed to office by former-President Obama. He says it’s not unusual for a new administration, particularly one of a different party, to want their own people heading departments. But that didn’t stop him from sending a letter to President Donald Trump asking that Green be kept on board.

Moore says Green received a letter Friday asking him to step down by Monday or he would be terminated. Lafayette area US Attorney Stephanie Finley and New Orleans-based US Attorney Kenneth Polite both announced their departure Friday. LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center is trying to solve the growing problem of childhood obesity. Dr. Amanda Staiano says the TIGER Kids program studies kids’ diets and physical activity. She says less than 10-percent of kids get the recommended amount of daily physical activity and hopes they can encourage them to be more active.

The UNO men’s basketball team left today for Dayton, Ohio that’s where the Privateers will play Mount St. Mary’s on Tuesday in the first game of the NCAA Tournament. The Privateers are the only Louisiana University to get an invite.

The UNO men’s basketball team left today for Dayton, Ohio that’s where the Privateers will play Mount St. Mary’s on Tuesday in the first game of the NCAA Tournament. If the University of New Orleans wins that game, they’ll play defending national champion and top seeded Villanova on Thursday night in Buffalo, New York.

LSU Athetic Director Joe Alleva will watch the NCAA Tournament closely as he looks for a new coach to lead the Tigers basketball program. Tiger Rag Editor Cody Worsham says one of the name’s he’s heard as a top prospect is Notre Dame Coach Mike Brey….

LSU remains either sixth or seventh in the major college baseball polls after sweeping Wichita State this past weekend. The Tigers had lost three of their last four heading into the weekend. But Coach Paul Mainieri shook up the line-up as he moved shortstop Kramer Robertson to lead-off and batted Antoine Duplantis third and it helped the Tigers score 27 runs during the three-game series…

Though he said he didn’t like it, a judge in Baton Rouge ruled to uphold a law that doesn’t let felons on probation and parole vote. State District Judge Tim Kelley said he did feel the mandate was unfair, but that he can not bend the law. The plaintiffs said they plan to appeal.

The percentage of people who admit to having a gambling problem in Louisiana went from about 2% in 2008, to 8% in 2016. Emelie Gunn reports on this with March being Problem Gambling Awareness Month…:

Cops in St. Bernard Parish say they’re investigating a case where it appears a woman fatally shot her husband and then killed herself in Chalmette early this morning. The sheriff said the woman’s young children were in the home at the time of the apparent murder suicide, but were not harmed.

A Loyola law professor believes he knows how to reduce Louisiana’s incarceration rate. Professor Bill Quigley recommends sentencing reform and classifying drugs as victimless crimes. He says changes need to be made because imprisonment ruins lives.

Quigley hopes lawmakers implement changes in the upcoming regular session.

Gambling addiction is on the rise, affecting about 8-percent of Louisianans, up from 2-percent in 2008. Executive Director of the Louisiana Association on Compulsive Gambling Janet Miler says asking if someone has a problem is the best way to tackle addiction.

Jury selection begins today for the trial for Derrick Stafford, a Marksville City Marshal accused of fatally shooting a 6-year-old autistic boy during a 2015 traffic stop. Stafford faces a murder charge after police say a vehicle pursuit ended with law enforcement officers firing 18 shots into the vehicle, where 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis was sitting in the front seat. Stafford’s attorney claims he acted in self-defense after the boy’s father, Christopher Few, rammed an officer’s vehicle.

Waitr is expanding thanks to an investment from a group led by Saints Quarterback Drew Brees. Waitr CEO Chris Meaux says the smartphone app allows users to order food from local restaurants for carryout or delivery. He says they call it frictionless dining.
