It’s been reported a teacher and principal have been placed on administrative leave in connection with the searches.

The Department of Agriculture says its getting millions of dollars from the federal government to help keep your food safe. The FDA says Louisaina will get more than $3 million dollars to help meet new safety standards. Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Dr. Mike Strain said he will use some of the money to create a partnership with the federal government, which could mean more training for some farmers.

Jefferson Parish President Mike Yenni appeared before the parish council today for the first time since he admitted to “inappropriate behavior” with a 17-year-old boy. Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser is coming up with new ways to combine Louisiana’s delicious seafood, with tourism promotion. He says they are getting close to releasing details about a social media program where all Louisiana residents can be an ambassador for the seafood industry…:

He says when you combine seafood with tourism it accounts for 14-billion dollars in annual revenue for Louisiana.

Southeastern Louisiana Coach Ron Roberts says quarterback Justin Alo will not play this Saturday against Houston Baptist, because of a shoulder injury.

Saints first round draft pick Sheldon Rankins has healed up from his broken leg during training camp and returns to the practice field today. Rankins was initially placed on injured reserve and according to NFL rules he’ll be eligible to play week 9 at San Francisco. Rankins should be able to help a defense that ranks 31st in the league.

Also, kicker Will Lutz has been named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Lutz made a 52-yard field goal that gave New Orleans a victory over Carolina last week.

This past Sunday night’s matchup between Houston and Indianapolis was the lowest rated Sunday night football game since 2011. Viewership for NBC’s prime-time games have been down 17 percent from last year.

The expectations are not that high for the LSU men’s basketball team. Members of the media have picked the LSU Tigers to finish 12th in the 14th team SEC. Sophomore guard Antonio Blakeney is a preseason second team All-SEC selection.

In the Sun Belt Conference, UL Lafayette has been picked to finish seventh in the 12 team league in a preseason coaches poll. ULM has been picked to finish eighth.

Republican State Treasurer John Kennedy was a target for attacks in last night’s debate. Democratic Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell asked Republican Congressman Charles Boustany to respond to an ad by Kennedy in which he jokes about suicide and drinking weed killer.

Kennedy responded, saying he’d rather drink weed killer than answer that.

A state legislative committee is meeting at this hour to talk about lawsuits filed by several coastal parishes against oil and gas companies, as the parishes claim they’re polluting their land. But House Natural Resources Committee chairman Stuart Bishop says parishes like Terrebonne and Lafourche oppose the suit.

Bishop says the goal of today’s meeting is to have an open dialogue about this issue.

The Caldwell Parish Superintendent issues an apology regarding the strip search that was conducted on students at Caldwell Parish High School to find a missing $42. Superintendent John Gullatt apologized to the students involved and their families, saying the incident must be addressed. He added that teachers and administrators will receive additional training.

Flu season is just around the corner and heath officials are urging folks to go ahead and get vaccinated now. State Medical Director Dr. Frank Welch says high risk groups include elderly people, pregnant women, and people with chronic health conditions, but everyone should get the shot:

The Jefferson Parish Council meets today, and Parish President Mike Yenni is supposed to be there. All members on the council have called for Yenni to resign since he admitted to sending improper text messages to a 17-year-old boy. Yenni has said he doesn’t plan to step down because what he did was just a stupid mistake and not illegal. Analysts expect the meeting to be awkward.

The New Orleans Saints have moved up five spots from No. 25 to No. 20 in the latest ESPN Power Rankings as they improve to 2-3 on the year after two wild finishes the past two weeks. New England is ranked No. 1 again this week, followed by Minnesota, Seattle, Dallas and Denver. The Saints travel to Kansas City to play the Chiefs on Sunday. Kansas City is ranked No. 11 after a big win over Oakland last weekend.

New Orleans coach Sean Payton surprised a 14-year-old super-fan battling a chronic illness with a contract to become a Saints player. On Good Morning America Tuesday, Payton told Jarrius Robertson that he was coming to Kansas City with the team this weekend and handling all media. Robertson is often at games and practices and has become a social media sensation.

Grambling’s climb in the national rankings continues. The Tigers’ football program moved up two spots to No. 21 in the latest FCS Top 25 Coaches Poll and moved up three spots to No. 22 in the STATS FCS Top 25.

McNeese State Head Coach Lance Guidry has left the Cowboys football program as his family grieves the loss of his brother and his grandfather, who died just two days a part. Guidry got the news Saturday afternoon just before the school’s first shutout loss since 2001. Lark Hebert will serve as acting head coach and says there’s it’s unknown if Coach Guidry will be back with the team before they play Northwestern State this Saturday.

The FBI says they’ve arrested 45 people throughout the state in connection with underage human trafficking as part of Operation Cross Country X. In a release, feds say they rescued three juvenile victims who were used for prostitution. The nationwide effort saved a total of 82 minors and 239 traffickers and their associates.
