Governor John Bel Edwards says he has no plans to rescind his executive order that state contracts must include clauses to protect LGBT employees from discrimination in the workplace. Attorney General Jeff Landry is blocking several state deals which contain the wording, and Edwards sued — but the judge sided with Landry. Edwards said on his call in radio show he hopes to work things out with the AG, but it doesn’t seem possible.

During Governor John Bel Edward’s monthly call-in show, he addressed several topics including a new Mississippi River bridge in Baton Rouge, the future of the film tax credit program, and coastal parish lawsuits against the oil and gas industry. Edwards says a new bridge is a huge priority for Baton Rouge, but it takes a lot of money to build a bridge.

Edwards says the Transportation Task Force meeting today to discuss improvements in the Baton Rouge area.

Regarding the film tax incentive program, Edwards says he doesn’t think the $180 million cap that lawmakers placed on the program in 2015 as the problem. He says a lot of movie producers had concerns about Louisiana’s commitment to the future of the industry, and expects lawmakers will address those concerns in next year’s legislative session.

Edwards also touched on the lawsuits filed by several coastal parishes against the oil and gas industry for the destruction of the coast. He says he supports the suit because it’s not enough to say these companies create jobs and boost revenue if they’re expediting coastal erosion.

The House Judiciary Committee held a meeting today to talk about ways to improve community relations with law enforcement. State Police Col. Mike Edmonson says they want to also address how the public responds to law enforcement. He says many young people don’t know what to do if they get pulled over.

At today’s meeting of the Jefferson Parish Council, members called for parish President Mike Yenni’s resignation and gave him a vote of no confidence. But the embattled politician says it is his job to move the parish forward and asks that the council let him do his job. He says he has never taken his oath to the parish or the people lightly.

Saints kicker Wil Lutz has been named NFC Special Teams player of the week. He kicked the 52-yard field goal that gave New Orleans a 41-38 win over Carolina. Coach Sean Payton says rookie wide receiver Jake Lampman received a game ball for his efforts on special teams as he had three tackles against the Panthers after being elevated from the practice squad.

There are reports that Pelicans star Anthony Davis could play in next week’s season opener after suffering a sprained ankle last week. It’s likely Davis could test his sore ankle in Thursday night’s preseason finale against the Orlando Magic. Sources say Davis practiced yesterday with no issues.

In a vote by the media, the LSU men’s basketball team has been picked to finish 12th in the 14-team SEC. Antonio Blakeney was an All-SEC second-team preseason selection.

The Sun Belt Coaches poll has UL Lafayette finishing seventh in the 12-team league and ULM coming in eighth place. UT Arlington heads into the year as a preseason favorite.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday at Elwood Baptist Church in Forest Hill for former Congressman and Public Service Commission Member Clyde Holloway, who passed away on Monday at the age of 72.
