Police in Abbeville say they are interviewing suspects in the case of the nurse who was allegedly kidnapped and abducted this morning. They say the woman was held at gunpoint and was demanded she reveal information about a doctor — possibly for the purposes of extortion. The investigation into this incident, exact motive and number of suspects is an ongoing effort, according to cops.

State Superintendent of Education John While got a positive job evaluation today by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, but will remain on his month-to-month deal. It’s reported White was given a 3.2 on a 4 point scale which he called “effective proficient.”

He also says they didn’t want to add to college campuses’ financial burdens, so they did not include new campus projects in this year’s construction bill…:

A crash with a fire truck sent six people in Baton Rouge to the hospital. The Baton Rouge Fire Department says it happened at the intersection of Florida Blvd. and Wooddale Blvd. The fire truck was t-boned while trying to get to a vehicle wreck on Greenwell Springs with its sirens and lights on. The three people in the vehicle, as well as, three in the fire truck were knocked unconscious. The fire truck driver suffered the most serious injuries.

 
Candiate for US Senate Troy Hebert is suing Southern Media and Opinion Research pollster Bernie Pinsonat for listing him as a Republican rather than an Independent in a poll. Hebert says he is not seeking damages in the suit, but it would be up to the judge to decide whether or not to award him any money in this case.

He says just because a project is included in the construction bill doesn’t mean it will be completed because the funds may not be available…:

Dardenne says the capital outlay bill has become more of an extensive wish list than a plan of what the state can actually accomplish.

Rain has started pounding parts of southeast Louisiana, and much of the region is under a flash flood watch until Saturday morning. Forecasters say the watch zone has the potential to move westward as the slow moving system moves over the state. Meanwhile, much of the top half of the state is under a heat advisory until the sun goes down — where heat index readings are between 105-110 degrees.

Parish President Kenny Mattassa said in a statement they believe the future is bright with possibilities at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center, including an ability to host the Memorial Weekend BCS.

Hebert says he is not seeking damages in the suit, but it would be up to the judge to decide whether or not to award him any money in this case.

But Pinsonat says identifying Hebert as an Independent certainly wouldn’t have helped his numbers. He says it’s not his fault that Hebert was excluded from a forum because of the poll, and he is not responsible for the decisions those organizations make.

Pinsonat says polls always have potential margins of error and should not be used in these kinds of cases because of that margin. He says using the poll was their decision, and he didn’t have anything to do with that.

Governor John Bel Edwards is calling for the resignation of state Senator Troy Brown after his second domestic abuse arrest in less than a year. But Brown reportedly says he will not resign from the legislature. The senator was arrested last month on a misdemeanor domestic abuse battery charge for allegedly biting his wife on the arm. That arrest comes just 8 months after he was arrested for simple battery in New Orleans for allegedly punching his mistress in the face.

The Natchitoches Police Department is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that claimed the life of Jimmy D. Long Sr. — a leader in state government for nearly a half-century. They say the crash occurred as Long was pulling out of a private driveway, and was hit by a vehicle driven by a juvenile on University Parkway. The crash is under investigation. Long’s 32-year tenure in the legislature was one of the longest in the state’s history. Governor John Bel Edwards says his death is a tragic loss.

Senate candidate Troy Hebert is suing Southern Media and Opinion Research pollster Bernie Pinsonat claiming he misrepresented him in a May poll. Hebert says the poll listed him under the wrong party affiliation…:

Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine is in New Orleans today, but political analyst Clancy Dubos says the goal is probably to raise more money than votes because republican candidate Donald Trump’s poll numbers are holding strong in the South, despite falling nationwide.

Dubos says if Trump’s numbers continue to decline, the Democrats could have a chance of winning the Bayou State.

A flood watch is in effect for several southeastern Louisiana parishes through Friday. Andrew Ansorge with the National Weather Service in Slidell says some areas will see upwards of 10 inches of rain.

The Department of Health says Louisiana has received $19.5 million dollars in a FEMA grant to help communities that are still recovering from devastating floods this past spring. It will fund work for about 1,575 families in 36 parishes.

Governor John Bel Edwards and other New Orleans officials say there is an additional $10 million dollars to begin work on a flyover ramp that will link I-10 to the Louis Armstrong International Airport in Kenner.
