Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie says 37-year-old Alton Sterling was armed when he was shot by police officers outside a convenience store, but they still have questions on how this tragedy occurred. Dabadie offered the media the information about the shooting they have at this time. He says someone called 911 saying that a black man selling CDs threatened them with a gun.

The mother of Sterling’s son, Quinyetta McMillian, also spoke a press conference today. Sterling’s oldest son, 15-year-old Cameron, became emotional watching his mother speak. McMillian blames the media for making this harder on her son by showing cell phone footage of the incident.

The names of the two officers involved in the fatal shooting of Alton Sterling have been released as Blane Salamoni, who has been on the force for 4 years and Howie Lake, who has been in the department for three years. Governor John Bel Edwards says this is a very serious matter…

Louisiana is set to receive 60-million dollars in federal grants that will benefit significant road projects in the state. The grant will be used to improve and expand I-10 between Lafayette and the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge. And Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves says this federal money will allow the state to use dollars to address the bottleneck on I-10 east as you come over the Mississippi River Bridge from West Baton Rouge parish.

The Saints announce they’ve signed defensive end Darryl Tapp and released tight end Jack Tabb. Tapp is a 10-year NFL veteran and played with the Lions last season, where he recorded 26 tackles , two sacks and two forced fumbles. Tapp also played for the Seahawks, Eagles, Redskins and the Lions. New Orleans is in search for bodies that can play at defensive end, as they have a lack of them on its roster.

The Baton Rouge Advocate reports that linebacker Sione Teuhema has transferred to Southeastern Louisiana. Teuhema played in 20 games for the Tigers and recorded two sacks.

For the second consecutive season, LSU senior center Ethan Pocic has earned a spot on the Rimington Trophy Fall Watch. Pocic was a second-team all-selection a year ago and led the team in knock down blocks last year.

Two former Louisiana college baseball players have been named to the All-Star game. Will Harris, who helped the LSU Tigers, reach the College World Series in 2003 and 2004, has been named to the American League All-Star team. Harris has been outstanding out of the pen for the Astros as he’s recorded an ERA of 0.74 in 36 relief appearances.

And Former Ragin Cajuns star Jonathan Lucroy is a National League All-Star for a second time. Lucroy will represent the Milwaukee Brewers. The catcher is hitting .296 with 10 home runs and 39 RBI.

LSU student-athletes, coaches, and support staff will undergo sexual harassment sensitivity training and awareness classes. Deputy Athletic Director Eddie Nunez says their classes will be very broad and address everything from human relations risks to prevention of harassment and abuse….

Baton Rouge Police have released the names of the two police officers involved in the shooting death of Alton Sterling. They are Blane Salamoni, who has been a member of the force for four years and Howie Lake the second, a three-year veteran of the department. Both officers work in the Uniform Patrol Division.

The president of the Baton Rouge chapter of the NAACP, Mike McClanahan, says someone should lose their job over Sterling’s death…

Thibodaux police is looking into the death of a 38-year-old man who was found lying in the roadway. The LaFourche Parish Coroner’s Office will determine the cause of death pending an autopsy. Alexandria police say a 19-year-old was fatally shot. The victim, Mikael Evans, was found in the yard of a home. Police are calling it a homicide, but a motive is not known.

There are cries for justice as result of the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Alton Sterling by a Baton Rouge police officer. The governor’s office plans to meet with State Police and the East Baton Rouge district attorney’s office over the fatal shooting of Alton Sterling, who was killed after a confrontation with two Baton Rouge police officers. An attorney for Sterling’s family has asked for State Police to take over the investigation and the NAACP says the Baton Rouge police chief should be fired.

According to the Louisiana Entertainment and Film Association, business from the state’s film industry is down 90-percent from a year ago. Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Don Pierson admits there’s some uncertainity in the industry and that’s why they will conduct a comprehensive review of the program…

Abortion providers in Louisiana have filed suit over seven abortion laws enacted this year. The Center for Reproductive Rights brought forward the federal suit to keep the rules from taking effect on August 1. But Deanna Wallace with Louisiana Right to Life says these laws are needed, because abortion doctors refuse to consider common sense protections for the safety of women….

The grant will go towards expanding and improving I-10 between I-49 and the Atchafalaya Basin and state transportation secretary Shawn Wilson says this federal money will allow the state to use its own dollars to fix the I-10 east bottleneck in Baton Rouge near the Mississippi River Bridge…

Cell phone video of Tuesday morning’s fatal shooting by a Baton Rouge police officer has gone viral and it has sparked protests from individuals demanding justice. The video shows two Baton Rouge police officers on top of Alton Sterling and struggling with the 37-year-old man when one of the officers shouts he has a gun. That’s when Sterling was shot multiple times. A state lawmaker has described the shooting as a murder. The two officers have been placed on administrative leave.

Gas prices have fallen on average seven cents over the last month according to a Triple-A’s fuel gage survey. Triple-A spokesperson Mike Right says it’s possible we can see gas prices fall below two-dollars a gallon before the end of the summer…

Pro life groups are reacting to a lawsuit filed that seeks to block implementaiton of several laws that regulate abortions. The lawsuit challenges the state’s new 72 hour waiting period to get an abortion and the ban an abortion procedure commonly used in the second trimester. Tulane will reportedly interview LSU hitting coach Andy Cannizaro and Southeastern Louisiana head coach Matt Riser as the Green Wave look for a new baseball coach. Cannizaro has spent two seasons at LSU and also played at Tulane, where he was named an all-american on two occassions. Riser has been the head coach of the Lions for the last three seasons and also played at Tulane.

Former LSU Tiger Will Harris has made the American League All-Star team. Harris has been sensational out of the bullpen for the surging Houston Astros. He’s posted a 0.74 ERA in 36 relief appearances and has eight saves. Former Ragin Cajuns standout Jonathan Lucroy has been named to the National League All-Star team for a second time.
