There were also three officers injured in the attack. East Baton Rouge Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said deputy Nicholas Tullier is in very, very critical condition. Gautreaux says another injured deputy, Bruce Simmons, was shot in the arm and a titanium rod was used to replace the bone that was shattered. Gautreaux praised the Baton Rouge City SWAT team for killing Long, before he took down more officers.

In other news…state senator Troy Brown is facing a domestic abuse charge in Ascension Parish. Sheriff Jeff Wiley says Brown was arrested at his Geismar residence after his wife called authortied and told them that the senator was irate and bit her on the forearm. Brown was also arrested eight months ago in New Orleans for allegedly punching a woman in the eye.

Baton Rouge Police Officer Montrell Jackson is also one of the victims. Friends say Jackson was one of the best guys you’ve ever met, who loved being an officer and died doing what he loved. He and his wife had just welcomed a child into the world.

At the scene where three Baton Rouge police officers were fatally shot, members of a saddened community are placing flowers and balloons to express their support for the fallen officers. Police Chaplin Bob Ossler of New Jersey put three crosses above the impromptu memorial for the officers who were killed and prayed with the people who came with flowers. He says police need more prayers.

41-year-old Matthew Gerald, another BRPD officer killed in the ambush, is a former Marine and Black Hawk Crew Chief in the Army. He leaves behind a wife and two daughters.

Joseph Cius of Orlando set up signs across the street from the scene on Airline Highway with the message of peace and unity. He says killing is not the way to get justice.

At a 2pm press conference, more details were released about the ambush attack that left three police officers dead and three more injured in Baton Rouge. Governor John Bel Edwards called the tragic incident “pure, unadulterated evil.”

The public has started a memorial at the scene where three officers were fatally gunned down by a man identified by authorities as Gavin Long. A man from Orlando has placed signs that say peace and unity. He says killing is not the way to get justice…

One of the officers wounded in the ambush has been released from the hospital, and another remains in critical condition, according to officials. 51-year-old Bruce Simmons was being treated for non-life threatening injuries, and he was released Monday. 41 year old Deputy Nicholas Tullier continues to fight for his life.

Officials with the Franklin Parish Sheriff’s Office says the 22-year-old woman who was abducted and nearly killed is still recovering at a hospital. 35-year-old Kevin Mathis is in jail in connection with the incident and charged with attempted murder and aggravated kidnapping. Authorities say the woman was found alone in a vehicle at a cemetery early Saturday morning. The case is under investigation.

A Louisiana Senator is facing his second arrest for domestic abuse charges. The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office says Senator Troy Brown was booked Sunday on charges stemming from allegations that he bit his wife on the arm during an altercation. Brown was arrested and charged with misdemeanor domestic abuse.

LSU Football Coach Les Miles was expected to be in Bristol, Connecticut to participate in ESPN’s “car wash” where the head coach appears on various TV and radio shows. But because of Sundays’ tragic fatal shooting of three Baton Rouge police officers, Miles cancelled the trip. In a statement, Miles says his heart hurts for Baton Rouge.

LSU basketball has received a verbal commitment from six-foot-seven, 220-pound small forward Galen Alexander, who is entering his senior season at Lafayette Cristian Academy. The four-star recruit is considered the state’s top prospect in 2017.

Pelicans Coach Alvin Gentry does not expect Tyreke Evans to be ready for the start of the 2016-17 regular season after having three sugeries on his right knee in the last nine months. The 26-year-old is entering the final year of his contract.

Below-average quarterback play and and allowing big plays on defense were a couple of reasons why the LSU Tigers struggled in the month of November last year. Cornerback Tre’Davious White believes new defensive coordinator Dave Aranda will help them avoid the mistakes that cost them last year…

A 4-year-old boy was killed in a murder-suicide in Sulphur Sunday night,
authorities said. The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s office says it appears 59-
year-old Kenneth Bacque shot his son before turning the gun on himself. They
had received reports that Baque had posted on Facebook that he was going to
kill himself and possibly his 4 year old, and responding authorities arrived
and found the man and his son dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
