Back to college baseball, Louisiana Tech begins a five-game week with a midweek home-and-home series against Northwestern State, beginning today in Natchitoches. The two will play in Ruston tomorrow.

The New Orleans Saints announced Monday they’ve agreed to terms with three of their 2016 draft picks. First Round Defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins, second round wide receiver Michael Thomas and 7th round pick Daniel Lasco all signed four year deals.

New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis was named Monday as a finalist for the NBA Cares Community Assist Award.

A bill to require warnings 500 feet ahead of red-light camera intersections heads to the house floor for final legislative passage. The author of the legislation, New Orleans Sen. Troy Carter, believes this would limit the ability for cities to bring in revenue, which currently collects a substantial amount.

Carter says right now there is barely any opportunity for a driver issued a red-light camera ticket to take their case to court. He says the second part of the bill is to provide for due process.

This is Whitley’s 2nd DWI, and Davis says she admitted to investigators that she had been drinking the night before this incident. He says he can’t believe someone would endanger children like this.

Davis says this drug test was random, and none of the children on the bus reported anything unusual about Whitley that morning. He says these random tests are typical for parish employees.

Baton Rouge mayor Kip Holden has filed his paperwork to run for Congress. Holden is expected to challenge fellow Democrat and incumbent US Representative Cedic Richmond, who represents the 2nd congressional district. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says while Holden will have support from Baton Rouge voters, he may need to get support from organizations in New Orleans to win more votes in that area.

The Jimmy Davis Bridge in Shreveport-Bossier City will not get its planned renovation anytime soon because the construction contract has been terminated. The Saints have signed first round pick, defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins. The Georgia native had 18 sacks during his career at Louisville. New Orleans also agreed to contract terms with second round draft pick, wide receiver Michael Thomas and seventh round pick, running back Daniel Lasco. All three draftees received four-year contracts. New Orleans also announced the release of former Mississippi State running back Vick Ballard.

LSU has announced that Austin Thomas has returned to the football staff as an assistant athletic director and director of player personnel. Thomas was hired by USC in February after spending the last three years as LSU’s Director of Player Personnel. Coach Les Miles says they are excited to have Thomas back on the staff.

And Northwestern State head men’s basketball coach Mike McConathy is excited to have Jalen West for another season. The NCAA has granted West a sixth year of eligibility after tearing his ACL in the season opener.

The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office announces they have made an arrest in the May 3 kidnapping and sexual assault of a woman outside a casino. Police say 23-year-old Jovante Owens of Lake Charles kidnapped a woman outside of a casino and drove around in her car while sexually assaulting her. Owens is charged with first-degree rape and aggravated kidnapping.

New Orleans Police Superintendent Michael Harrison says robbery appears to be the motive in the shooting death of Thomas Rolfe. He’s the Tulane grad, who was in New Orleans for the weekend to plan a spot for his wedding. Rolfe’s body was found a few blocks from where surveillance video spotted the 25-year-old purchasing water. Harrison says there were marks on Rolfe’s hands that suggests there was a struggle.

Champagne says Louisiana also allows driver’s permits at 15, but the rest of the country doesn’t allow permits until 16, and the driving curfew for teen divers is earlier in other states. Champagne says we are giving our kids the ability to seriously hurt themselves, their passengers, and other drivers.
