The LSU Baseball team and Notre Dame are playing a doubleheader today in South Bend, after last night’s game was postponed by rain. Game One started at 2 PM and it’s still going on as the contest went into extra innings in a scoreless tie. John Valek started game one for the Tigers and pitched well. The senior left-hander pitched four plus innings and struck out five. Riley Smith is expected to start game two for the Tigers.

In other action tonight…Louisiana Tech hosts Northwestern State. The Bulldogs blanked the Demons six to nothing last night. Tech has won five in a row. Northwestern is looking to end a two-game losing streak.

The 21st Ragin Cajuns begin a five-game road trip as they visit Houston. UL Lafayette is 6-6 in midweek games this year. Nicholls has never lost to Alcorn and those two schools meet on the baseball diamond in Thibodaux. Also McNeese is at Baylor.

The LSU Softball team scored three runs in the 7th inning to beat Texas A-and-M 5-4 in the first round of the SEC Tournament. The victory moves the Bayou Bengals into the quarterfinals, where they’ll play Kentucky at 1:30 on Thursday. The Wildcats swept the Tigers during the regular season.

In the Sun Belt Tournament….UL Lafayette had a bye today, but ULM defeated Georgia Southern two to one. The Warhawks scored both of their runs in the first inning.

The state baseball tournament begins tomorrow in Sulphur as semi-final action takes place in Class C, Class B and in Four-A. In Four-A…it’s Teurlings Catholic versus district rival Breaux Bridge and the other semi has 3rd seeded West Ouachita taking on second-seeded St. Michael.

The Saints have signed second round pick Vonn Bell, who is a safety out of Ohio State. Bell is expected to receive a signing bonus around one-million dollars and his four-year contract is worth nearly four million dollars. The team’s only draft pick that has yet to sign is defensive tackle David Onyemata, who was selected in the fourth round.

The full House is set to debate the proposed budget for next fiscal year tomorrow, and there are concerns about state funding for healthcare, as more cuts could be coming to DHH. House Appropriates Chairman Cameron Henry defended reallocating some dollars during a discussion of the proposed budget.

The proposal means 17-year-old nonviolent offenders would no longer be automatically tried as adults. A Houma man is facing animal cruelty charges after he allegedly shot and killed his neighbor’s pit bull. Sgt. Travis Theriot says 60-year-old Karl Kohman’s 34-year-old son was walking through the neighbor’s yard when the dog bit him on the ankle. He says Kohman hid the dog’s body after the shooting:

The former children’s TV host Mr. Wonder is going to be escorted Thursday on his flight from California back to Louisiana where he’s facing charges stemming from allegations that he sexually abused children during a camping trip in 1979. 76-year-old Frank John Selas III was indicted in February on two counts of aggravated ramp and other charges. Selas hosted the TV show in Monroe in the 70s, and fled the state after parents complained he was abusing their children on the field trip.

A St. Landry Parish man is facing several charges after cops say he tried to set his own house on fire in a fit of rage. The Sheriff’s Office says when deputies arrived, they located 34-year-old Eugene Chambers of Eunice pouring gasoline on the residence and threatening officers with a metal pipe. A victim stated she and six children, between the ages of 2 and 13, were forced outside and that Chambers also dumped gasoline on her. He is charged with Attempted Aggravated Arson, Aggravated Assault and Resisting an Officer.

It’s every parents worst nightmare, says the Ruston Police Department, as a mother ran over her child during morning carpool at the New Living Word Church. Cops say as the mother was pulling into the parking lot, the child opened the door while the vehicle was still in motion, then fell under the wheel of the SUV. The child was pronounced dead by the Lincoln Parish Coroners Office.

Two teenagers are dead following a crash caused by a motorist who is believed to have ran a stop sign in Iberia Parish. The Sheriff’s Office says the vehicle that failed to yield was hit by an SUV, and the two occupants of the car believed to be in violation, a 16 year old passenger and the 18 year old driver, were both pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

A Houma man has been arrested on an aggravated animal cruelty charge for shooting his neighbor’s pit bull. Authorities say Karl Kohman shot the two-year-old dog with a .22 caliber handgun because he bit his son who was walking in the neighbor’s yard. Kohman also faces a charge of illegal use of a weapon.

The House Education committee approves legislation would give public students the option to attend any school in their district. A solider at Fort Polk has reportedly died during a training exercise at the Joint Rediness Taining Center. A base spokesperson says the incident occurred during a live fire and the soldier was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The name of the Solider will be released pending next of kin notification.
