According to the Center for Public Integrity, the Louisiana governor’s race is responsible for nearly two-thirds of all political television ad spending for the October 24th election. The report shows that the governor’s race accounts for $8.3 million of the $12.4 million total spent across all races thus far. 41-percent was spent by political action committees.

In last night’s gubernatorial debate on Louisiana Public Broadcasting, the three candidates present let out their frustrations over attack ads that have occurred during the campaign. Republican Jay Dardenne blamed the attacks on Republican David Vitter, who did not attend the event…

Dardenne denied accusations that the state paid for his wife during an overseas trip and that he voted for pro-choice legislation.

The state Attorney General’s Office says a Lafayette man is under arrest on counts of possessing pornographic images of children under the age of 13. Cybercrime investigators reportedly found dozens of images of child porn at the home of 66-year-old James Hinson. Hinson was taken into custody and booked on 100 counts of possessing pornography involving juveniles. Officials say Hinson faces 40 years in prison on each count.

The state’s economy will continue to feel the effects of low oil prices, but industrial booms in certain areas will create major job growth, according to the 2016-17 Louisiana Economic Outlook. Economist and report Dr. Loren Scott says the study clearly indicates that Louisiana would really benefit by a rebound in the energy sector…

Two men are dead after a twin-engine Cessna crashed shortly after takeoff Wednesday afternoon at the Hammond airport. Officials say the plane experienced trouble shortly after take off and then nose-dived into the ground approximately 300 yards west of the runway. The Tangipahoa Parish Coroner has yet to identify the victims. The FAA and NTSB will investigate to determine the cause of the crash.

The four major candidates for governor will appear in a statewide televised debate tonight at 6PM from the campus of Louisiana Tech University in Ruston. Political Analyst Clancy Dubos says this will likely be the last chance voters will see all four candidates together before the October 24th election.

Dubos says he expects to see the two front runners, Republican David Vitter and Democrat John Bel Edwards, maintain their position while the other two candidates, Republicans Scott Angelle and Jay Dardenne, attempt to break out and distinguish themselves.

LSU Mammal Curator, Jake Esselstyn, has discovered a new species of rodent while surveying in Indonesia. He says this species, called the Hog-nosed rat, has a large pink nose, extremely large ears, and long legs. Esselstyn says there are many other tropical, mountainous islands like Sulawesi that are yet to be surveyed for mammal diversity…

In a Raycom Media poll of 600 registered voters, Vitter and Democrat John Bel Edwards are polling above 21-percent, while Republicans Jay Dardenne and Scott Angelle are in the single digits.

It has not been a quiet week for the Florida Gators as they prepare to face LSU Saturday. First, their starting quarterback Will Grier was suspended for a year for taking a banned over-the-counter supplement. Now , freshman defensive back Deiondre Porter has been suspended indefinitely for allegedly firing a gun in he direction of his pregnant girlfriend.

Louisiana Tech will face Mississippi State on Saturday. Tech has won three in a row, but head coach Skip Holtz wants to see his defense stop giving up big plays

Mississippi State’s defensive coordinator is Manny Diaz, who was the defensive coordinator at Tech last season. That game can be seen on the SEC Network.

In the Southland Conference this weekend…Nicholls State looks for its first win of the season as they host Houston Baptist. McNeese State looks to stay undefeated as they visit Central Arkansas. Northwestern State is coming off a bye week and will host Lamar, while Southeastern Louisiana takes on Stephen F Austin in Hammond.

In the SWAC…It’s homecoming for Southern as they take on Prairie View, while Grambling travels to Alcorn State in a matchup of two teams undefeated in league play.

The high temperatures today are expected to be in the mid-90s in north Louisiana, which would break the previous record high of 91 that was established in 1947 in both Monroe and Shreveport. Hughes says the record broken yesterday goes back even further…

We saw record high temperatures in north Louisiana today and more are expected tomorrow. Highs tomorrow in north Louisiana are expected to be in the mid 90s.

A new Orleans television station is reporting that two people were killed when a small merchant plane crashed at the Hammond airport this afternoon. A cause of the crash is not known.

The head of LSU’s Public Policy Research Lab says were seeing a lot more negative commercials for this governor’s race compared to 2003, which was the last compeitive race for governor we had in Lousiaina. Michael Henderson says we can expect to see more negative ads as we approach election day and head into a runoff…

An Ascension Parish judge has decided that a 16-year-old accused of murder should be tried as an adult. Authorities say Jacob Westbrook stabbed 18-year-old Todd Toups, who went to a trailer home to give a girl a ride to the St. Amant homecoming dance. Legal analyst Tim Meche says it’s too early in the process to anticipate how this case will turn out…

However, of the 602 respondents, a whopping 37% percent say they remain undecided on who to vote for governor next Saturday.

The 16-year-old boy accused of stabbing to death an 18-year-old St. Amant High student before the homecoming dance has been identified and he will be tried as an adult. A state judge in Ascension Parish ruled today that Jacob Westbrook of Baton Rouge’s second degree murder trial will not be heard in Juvenile Court. Westbrook is accused of killing 18-year-old Todd “TJ” Toups Jr. with a steak knife on October 10th in Gonzales.

State Ag & Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain says they are investigating the cause of wildfires through 6 parishes in north Louisiana which destroyed thousands of acres of land. He says one of the fires was caused by a lightning strike, another caused by a person burning a tree stump, while the others were deliberately set. Strain warns people who commit arson, they will be prosecuted to the fullest extend of the law…:
