The Saints’ preseason comes to an end with a 38-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers last night at Lambeau Field. The Black and Gold was unable to hold on to their 10-0 halftime lead. New Orleans went 0-4 in the preseason, the first winless preseason for the team since 1971. The Saints have to cut their roster down to 53-players by 3PM Saturday. New Orleans opens the regular season September 13th at Arizona.

In state high school football action…Warren Easton upended the defending Division I state champ Jesuit 34-21. It was Vermilion Catholic over Catholic of New Iberia 35-12. Jennings edged Kinder 41-40. Central Catholic doubled up St. John 54-27. Huntington squeaked by Mansfield 22-21. Ascension Catholic defeated Point Coupee Catholic 53-25. Ville Platte shut out Mamou 30-0.

Running back Kody Sutton ran for two touchdowns in the second half as Southeastern Louisiana defeated Northwestern State 34-20. Lions quarterback D’Shale Landor rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown. The Demons trailed 13-6 at the half but couldn’t keep up with Southeastern as the Lions tallied 21 second half points. Southeastern Louisiana has now won 11 straight games against in-state conference opponents.

Duke crushed Tulane 37-7. Quarterback Thomas Sirk lit up the Green Wave defense passing for 289 yards and 2 touchdowns. Tulane will travel to face Georgia Tech on September 12th.

On average, Louisiana shrimpers are receiving about $1.30 a pound for their catch, compared to $4.70 last year, because of a huge increase of imported shrimp. Scott says there are more shrimp buyers than shrimp sellers and buyers like the low prices…

Payton says firearms and ammunition are also a part of this tax exemption. She says retailers across the state look forward to this holiday every single year.

The Calcasieu Parish D-A’s office says they will seek the death penalty against Kevin Daigle. He’s the man who is accussed of killing Louisiana State Trooper Steven Vincent, who authorities say was trying to assist Daigle after he drove off the road near Lake Charles.

The Saints face the Green Bay Packers tonight in the final preseason game of the year. It’s a big game for former Tulane quarterback Ryan Griffin. He’s expected to take plenty of snaps and needs a good performance to make the team. Kick-off is at 6 PM.

Griffin’s alma mater, Tulane, begins its season tonight as the Green Wave host Duke. Tulane went three and nine last season and lost to the Blue Devils.

In Natchitoches…Northwestern State will host Southeastern Louisiana. The Lions are the two-time defending champs in the Southland. They have a new quarterback this season, UL Lafayette transfer D’Shaie Landor. S-L-U Coach Ron Roberts says Landor is a gifted player….

The Calcasieu DA’s Office says they plan to seek the death penalty for a man accused of the first degree murder of State Trooper Steven Vincent. They say Kevin Daigle was indicted today on the charges for killing the cop and also second degree murder in the death of his roommate.

The couple who allegedly killed a Zachary man because he assaulted the woman throughout her childhood has been indicted on second degree murder charges. 21-year-old Jace Crehan and 18-year-old Brittany Monk, both of Walker, allegedly killed 47-year-old Robert Noce. Legal analyst Tim Meche says Monk will have to prove that she feared for her life because of the sexual abuse…:

Monk pleaded not guilty this morning.

The Baton Rouge Police Department says the man who was hit by an 18-wheeler on I-12 this morning walked into traffic on purpose and died by suicide. The identity of the 34-year-old man is not being released.

A Carenco man died Wednesday night after being hit by a train according to Lafayette Police. They say 24-year-old Calrence Tezeno Jr. died on scene.

Triumph campaigns has released a new poll on the Louisiana Governor’s race. In the survey conducted between September 1st and 2nd, Republican David Vitter and Democrat John Bel Edwards are tied with 31% support, Republican Scott Angelle has 14%, Republican Jay Dardenne has 13% and 11% remain undecided.

St. John the Baptist Parish authorities arrested four people in connection with a shocking attack on a fast food employee. The assault was caught on video and posted online. Sheriff Mike Tregre says they couldn’t believe what they saw when it was turned in to authorities. The 16-year-old victim, who was punched by several teenage girls, is said to be okay. A motive for the assault has not been released.

A grand jury has indicted a man and his pregnant girlfriend in the death of a sex offender who repeatedly assaulted the woman throughout her childhood. 21-year-old Jace Crehan and 18-year-old Brittany Monk, both of Walker, face second degree murder charges in the death of 47-year-old Robert Noce of Zachary. Legal analyst Tim Meche says this is not a difficult case for prosecutors…

A task force has been formed to study the impact of illegal immigration in Louisiana and their first meeting was held today in Baton Rouge. Chairperson Valarie Hodges, a Republican House Rep from Denham Springs, says the purpose of this task force is not to solve the problem of illegal immigration…:

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office says a woman investigators believe tried to hire someone to kill her husband has been arrested as she was trying to climb out of a window in her trailer. 39-year-old Trina Annette Tyler was booked on two counts of soliciting for murder according to a news release.
