Authorities in Lafayette say we now know the identity of the shooter in last night’s deadly shooting inside a Lafayette movie theatre…

Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft says Houser took his own life as officers approached. Authorities are not sure why he came to Lafayette. They say Houser is estranged from his family and had been staying in a local hotel since early July. Poice are seeking the public’s help in trying to find out more about Houser. A shooting inside The Grand movie theater in Lafayette has left three people dead and nine others injured. Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft identifies the shooter as 59-year-old John Russel Houser of Phenix City, AL. He says Houser has been in Lafayette since early July. The two deceased victims have been identified as 21-year-old Mayci Breaux and 33-year old Jillian Johnson. Craft says they are working to determine the motive of the shooter…

Some of the guys attending this camp are players who LSU would like to be part of the 2016 recruiting class that’s currently ranked as the best in the country by 24-7 sports.

The Sun Belt Conference is reportedly looking at two schools that could be added to the league’s membership. They are Eastern Kentucky and Coastal Carolina. Commissioner Karl Benson has confirmed that Eastern Kentucky has contacted the Sun Belt. The addition of Eastern Kentucky or Coastal Carolina would give them at least 12 teams for basketball and baseball.

Three jockeys at the Evangeline Downs Race Track in Opelousas have been arrested and face charges for their roles in alleged race fixing scheme. Trooper Brooks David says 46-year-old Joseph Patin Junior, his 51-year-old brother, Billy Patin and 24-year-old LeSean Conyers engaged in questionable riding tactics, like pulling the reins, which affected the outcome of a race on June 19th…

East Feliciana High School lineman Tra’Vontae Booker has announced his commitment to play college football at UL-Lafayette. The 6′ 4″ 310 pounder has been a standout on the Tigers’ offensive line, where he has started for three seasons and earned first team All-District 6-2A honors. Booker is the 10th commitment in the Ragin’ Cajuns recruiting class. Booker is a projected defensive tackle for the Cajuns.

The police chief described the weapon used in the attack as a handgun. Craft says nine people were wounded. He describes their injuries as ranging from non-life threatening to critical. Governor Bobby Jindal arrived shortly after the shooting and asked for Louisiana residents to pray for the victims.

Seth Fontenot was originally charged with first degree murder in the death of 15 year-old Austin Rivault, but the jury returned verdicts for a lesser charge. Today, the judge reduced Fontenot’s previous 3 year sentence to 13 months at hard labor instead.
