Rallo says they will ask the next governor to put some budget reforms into place that will give higher ed leaders more assurances that they’ll have a certain amount of money available every year…

French says there are many ways structure a cap on a tax credit program, but legislators got it wrong in this case. He points out that the legislation is not law, yet. After assessing the Red River flooding in the Shreveport area, US Senator Bill Cassidy says he’ll look into why NOAA’s earlier crest predictions were off. Cassidy says the federal agency’s prediction of a 34-feet crest resulted in an unpleasant surprise when the eventual crest came in at 37-feet

Cassidy says he’s will also look into whether the Army Corps of Engineers could have done anything differently as the water flowed down the Red River from Oklahoma…

The flood waters from the Red River have receded somewhat, but local officials say the battle is still not over in some Shreveport and Bossier neighborhoods. Sandbags are in place, but some of those have begun to leak. The water is down about a foot, but it’s still above flood stage right now.

Governor Bobby Jindal says it was a very successful legislative session, since lawmakers passed a balanced budget. Jindal says he’s proud of the work done on K-12 education reform, including a School Voucher Program that will ultimately be a big help for students and their parents who really need it…

In the wake of the arrest of two day care workers following the death of a 22-month old child, the State Department of Education is posting a list of unlicensed day care centers on their website, to help avoid tragedies in the future. The infant died in the care of a Baton Rouge day care center operator, who had her license revoked.

Albert Woodfox, the last incarcerated member of the Angola 3, will remain in prison for the time being. Woodfox, who has been twice convicted for killing a prison guard, was hoping to get out of prison this week, after a federal judge ordered that he should be released and barred the state from tyring him for a third time. But the Louisiana Attorney General’s office has been successful to this point in keeping Woodfox behind bars as the A-G’s office still believes he’s guily in the 1972 death.

Legislators approved the tax increases and a roll back of tax credits in order to prevent big cuts to higher education and health care. But Waguespack wishes lawmakers would have taken a different route to fund those areas…

Last year, Williams play for the Seahawks and appeared in all 16 games, recording 29 tackles, three sacks and two passes defensed.

The Saints have released their training camp schedule. They’ll have two joint practices with the Patriots on August 19th and 20th in Greenbrier, West Virginia. New Orleans will have a handful of open practices at their training facility in Metairie from August 23rd to the 28th.

Testimony has concluded in the mental competency hearing invovling Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson. The 87 year-old told reports as he left the courthouse that it’s no fun to have your kids turn against you…that’s for the birds.

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals continued the blockage of the release of Albert Woodfox, until the appeal from Attorney General Buddy Caldwell is considered further. The case has an “expedited” status, which means his release could happen in a few weeks.

It now appears that one of the Louisiana Guardsmen killed in a training mission helicopter crash off the coast of Florida, will be allowed to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Secretary of the Army John McHugh says he approved the exception to the burial of 26 year-old Thomas Florich, who was originally denied because he was officially listed as inactive.
