Meanwhile, rain is a more of a factor than the wind right now in Southwest Louisiana as Tropical Storm Bill moves from southeast Texas and northeast Texas. The National Weather Service in Lake Charles says periods of rain will continue to fall, which could lead to flash flooding.

Red River waters are receding by a little more than a foot a day and the river is expected to be down to 30 feet by Thursday. However, Davis says there is much concern about Tropical Storm Bill. He says officials are keeping an eye on the potential impact the system could have on the area…

The declaration is required to trigger FEMA’s Individual Assistance Grant Program. The teams will look at approximately 150 homes and buildings in Caddo Parish. Riley says they will be looking for substantial damage to structures…

Brazzell says the worst of the weather will be from Houston to the central Texas coast. He says Tropical Storm Bill formed quickly when it got into the Gulf this week, which is a reminder for us to keep an eye out on the tropics over the next several months.

Though far lower than last summer, the gas prices in Louisiana have been steadily rising over the past 7 days. The current statewide average for a gallon of regular is $2.58 which is up a nickle from this time last week.

LSU turns to freshman pitcher Alex Lange to keep its season alive as they face Cal State Fullerton this afternoon in a College World Series elimination game. Lange says he’ll use the same game plan that helped him become college baseball’s National Freshman Pitcher of the Year….

Lange is 11-and-0 on the season with 1.89 ERA. The Titans will also a pitch a freshman today. Connor Seabod is 5-and-3 with a 2.84 ERA.

Cal State comes into this game with a 39-and-24 record and the Titans were the champions of the Big West Conference.

Last night in Omaha…Miami eliminated Arkansas and Virginia beat Florida in a winner’s bracket contest.

The Saints begin a three-day mini-camp today at the team’s training facility in Metairie. The practices are open to the public.

Louisiana Tech is installing a new field turf at Joe Aillet Stadium. The new turf is called Field Turf Revolution and it has brighter colors than the previous turf and its expected to last longer. The new Field Turf will be ready for the season opener against Southern on September fifth.

Lousiaina Tech men’s basketball coach Eric Konkol has finalized his staff with the addition of Duffy Conroy, who has spent the past 10 seasons as an assistant coach at Milwaukee helping the Panthers get to the NCAA Tournament in 2006 and 2014.

And LSU junior center Darcy Malone is part of the 16-member team that’s participating for Australia in the World University games. The 11-day tournament is in July in south Korea.

GOHSEP says federal authorities are trying to determine if the damage is bad enough to qualify for a Presidential Disaster Declaration required to trigger grants.

Lafayette Representative Joel Robideaux says if the governor vetoes the bill, it will lead to a 70-million dollar cut to higher education and health care…:

Lafayette Representative Joel Robideaux, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, doesn’t see Governor Bobby Jindal vetoing the film tax credit legislation that caps the amount of credits redeemed to 180-million dollars a year. Hollywood South is concerned the legislation will chase movie production away. But Robideaux says the cap still allows for 540-million dollars in film production a year…

Springfield Mayor Charles Martin is resigning after pleading guilty to his involved in a ticket fixing scheme. Martin is required to pay $550 in fines, perform 32 hours of community service and two years of probation. Assistant LA Attorney General David Caldwell says they take cases of small town corruption seriously…

Martin pleaded guilty to misdemeanor criminal mischief and will not serve jail time.
