Gas prices in Louisiana have been rising over the last month. The American Automobile Association says the current statewide average is $2.59 for a gallon of regular gasoline — 17 cents more than this time last month. But AAA Fuel Analyst Don Redman last year at this time we were paying around $3.42 a gallon:

He expects prices to come down by the end of next month.

All the rain we’ve seen in southwest Louisiana is making it difficult on farmers who are trying to grow rice and soybeans. LSU AgCenter extension agent Barrett Courville says there were only two brief periods of dry weather that allowed for planting this spring…:

Kenner Police arrested a New Orleans couple after they allegedly left their disabled 24-year-old daughter alone in a van while they gambled at a casino. Lt. Brian McGregor says 71-year-old William Jackson and 62-year-old Paula Jackson are each charged with cruelty to the infirm. McGregor says officers responded to a call from a concerned citizen…:

McGregor says the woman was left in the van for approximately four hours.

The LSU baseball team avoided elimination in the College World Series by beating Cal State Fullerton 5-3 Tuesday. The Tigers fell behind 3-0, but LSU finally got the bats going in the third inning as they scored four runs. The Tigers play again tomorrow night against TCU.

Kenner Police arrested a New Orleans couple after they allegedly left their disabled 24-year-old daughter alone in a van while they gambled at a casino. They say 71-year-old William Jackson and 62-year-old Paula Jackson, left the woman alone in a handicapped parking lot. Authorities say the victim suffers from traumatic brain injury, cannot communicate, and is completely dependent on a caretaker. The Jackson’s are each charged with cruelty to the infirm.

The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office has charged a Leesville man with attempted second degree murder following a domestic dispute. The victim says her husband, 37-year-old Robert Drummond, beat her with a firearm and threatened to kill her while he held her down. She says Drummond also fired shots at her as she fled the residence. Drummond also faces several other charges, including aggravated assault with a firearm.

Graves says one bill improves the science used to manage Red Snapper resources and the second bill deals with making sure commercial and recreational fisherman have greater access to Red Snapper.

The Golden State Warriors are NBA Champions after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers last night 105-97. The Warriors took the best-of-seven series four-games-to-two. League MVP Stephen Curry and Finals MVP Andre Iguodala each scored 25 to end Golden State’s 40 year championship drought.

Payton also says he’s optimistic when it comes to the injury status of outside linebacker Junior Galette. It’s been reported that Galette will not need surgery for a pectoral injury.

Saints backup quarterback Ryan Griffin apparently was administered several stitches after being attacked with a bottle at a Central Business District club earlier this month. Griffin is back on the field for this week’s minicamp. Team officials say they are aware of the situation and Griffin has their full support.

Louisiana Tech is installing a new field turf at Joe Aillet Stadium. The new turf is called Field Turf Revolution and it has brighter colors than the existing turf and its expected to last longer. The new Field Turf will be ready for the season opener against Southern on September 5th.
