A State Police investigation into criminal activity at Jackson Parish Hospital has lead to the arrest of four people, three of which were hospital employees. Sgt. James Anderson says investigators discovered different forms of criminal activity going on at the hospital…

Anderson says they discovered cases of illegal drug distribution and payroll fraud at the hospital. He says former employees 51-year-old Vickie Booker and 48-year-old Elizabeth Cheatwood, both of Jonesboro, have been booked in connection to the payroll fraud…

He says former hospital pharmacist, 64-year-old Aaron Nash of Jonesboro, along with Cheatwood and her husband, former Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Deputy 51-year-old Cody Cheatwood, face charges in the illegal distribution of drugs… (All four were booked into the Jackson Parish Correctional Center.)

Calcasieu, Jackson, and Central School systems lead the state in the percentage of opt-outs during Monday’s first day of statewide PARCC testing. Jackson had an opt-out rate of 13-percent, followed by 12-percent for Calcasieu and eight-percent for Central. Central School Superintendent Michael Faulk says 153 students in the district did not participate…

Statewide about one-percent of students opted out of the Common Core testing. Opt-outs will be given a zero on the exams and that will transfer to the school and school district scores. Faulk says he’s concerned that his school system will be judged with no consideration to the percentage of opt-outs…

Faulk believes social media has something to do with the number of opt-outs. He says they began a Facebook page to try to deal with the false information about the tests spreading on the site…

This time “The News Examiner” says polygamy is now legal in DeQuincy. Mayor Lawrence Henagan says if anyone truly reads these articles you would easily be able to tell that they aren’t real…:

Henagan says on one hand it’s free publicity for the town, but on the other hand this is getting old and he wishes the writer would find someone else to pick on. He says it’s the same guy who has been writing the phony columns…:

The Humane Society of Louisiana is finding out new information about a viral photo from a gas station in Slidell that appears to be a man leaving his dog and driving off. The picture is from a concerned citizen’s cell phone and shows a dog chasing a truck. Humane Society Director Jeff Dorson says they’ve been told that this man is picked up for work from the gas station and the dog follows…:

The witness who took the picture said she saw the man yell at the dog to go away then sped away in a truck. Dorson says even if this is a daily occurrence, the dog is still in danger of being it or causing an accident. He says they believe they have tracked down the owner..:

Dorson says they are glad to know that someone didn’t just drop their dog off then drive away, but it’s still a huge problem that the dog is running in the road and that this happens daily…:
