The weather in Fayetteville on Saturday night might not allow for much passing. There’s now a 70-percent chance for snow showers during the game.

One other LSU note…Tigers middle linebacker Kendell Beckwith says he has a tender hamstring, but expects to play against the Razorbacks.

The Saints return to the practice field today to get ready for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Cincinnati has one of the worst defenses in the NFL as they rank 30th in the league in total yards given up per game and next to last in rush defense.

The big game in the Southland Conference this Saturday is between McNeese State and Southeastern Louisiana. Both teams are ranked and have injuries at the quarterback position. The Cowboys Daniel Sams has a thumb injury and is questionable for Saturday, while S-L-U’s Bryan Bennett has a foot injury. Lions Coach Ron Roberts is optimistic Bennett will play, but also knows injuries are part of the game…

McNeese State linebacker Deontate Thompson is done for the season. The four-year starter has decided to stop playing after suffering a concussion.

In the NBA tonight…the Pelicans host Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers tonight. L-A dropped to 1-and-6 on the season with a 107-102 loss to Memphis last night.

And today LSU should receive a signed national letter of intent from six-foot-eight power forward Ben Simmons, who is one of the top recuits in the nation.

State Treasurer John Kennedy isn’t happy about Louisiana’s budget numbers. He says the state general fund is running at a historically high negative balance just four months into the fiscal year and he’s worried this could lead to another round of mid-year budget cuts…:

The state says they will review the numbers at the Revenue Estimating Conference on Friday and assure by mid-year a balanced budget will be in place.

After finishing third in Louisiana’s US Senate primary, retired Air Force Colonel Rob Maness is is not shutting the door on another potential run for political office. Maness received over 200,000 votes in the November 4th election. He says he’d consider another run for office if he felt called to do so…:

Maness has endorsed fellow Republican Bill Cassidy in December’s Senate runoff election.

There is a multiple agency investigation underway into the disappearance of a 32-year-old woman from Marion who was last seen in woods in Union County, Arkansas late Monday night. Officials say Amanda McPherson and a friend were reportedly driving in some woods when they became stuck. Apparently the friend with McPherson says he went to get help but when he came back, Amanda was gone. Dogs are tracking woods where she was last seen.

Baton Rouge Police have arrested a 24-year-old woman for allegedly trying to run over her fiance while their one-year-old was in the car. Authorities say during an argument, Mictissa Mosely began punching her fiance while he was driving. When the victim jumped out of the vehicle and tried to call a cab, Mosely tried to run over him. Mosely was booked for attempted second degree murder and cruelty to a juvenile.

Louisiana State Police say a single vehicle accident in Prairieville has claimed the life of a Geismar man. Authorities say a car, driven by 27-year-old Cody Viator, went off the roadway into a ditch and struck a culvert. The car then went airborne, landed back on the roadway, and flipped. They say Viator, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

Although the Republican Party has a gained a majority in both the US House and Senate, they do not have enough votes to override a Presidential Veto. UL-Lafayette Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says if the GOP wants to get their policies passed into law, they will have to have a two-thirds vote supporting their issues…

Commissioner of Administration Kristy Nichols said in a statement that there is a hiring freeze in place and if additional reductions need to be made at the mid-year point then it will happen to make sure a balanced budget is in place.

Tenth ranked Southeastern Louisiana is getting ready to host 13th ranked McNeese State this Saturday at Strawberry Stadium. The Lions are tied for first place in the Southland, one game ahead of the Cowboys. Southeastern is 7-and-3 overall on the season, but Coach Ron Roberts says they’ve yet to put it all together…

Both teams come into the game with injuries at the quarterback position. McNeese Daniel Sams has a thumb injury and is questionable for Saturday, while S-L-U’s Bryan Bennett has a foot injury. Kickoff is scheduled for 3PM Saturday afternoon.

Although he was seen walking gingerly around the locker room with a left knee injury, Saints cornerback Kennan Lewis hopes to play this Sunday against the Bengals. In case Lewis can’t go, New Orleans has reportedly signed safety Jamarca Sanford, who was released by the Redskins two weeks ago. Sanford also spent five seasons playing for Minnesota, starting 44 games.

LSU threw for only 76 yards in the loss to Alabama and the Tigers rank next to last in the Southeastern Conference in passing yards per game. So should there be a change at quarterback? The high school football playoffs kick-off this weekend. In Class Four-A, Neville is ranked number one by the sports writers, but they have the number two seed in the 4-A bracket. Plaquemine is the top seed and the Green Devils will begin their run through the playoffs by hosting McDonough 35. Neville takes on Riverdale in the opening round. If Neville advances, they’ll face either Breaux Bridge or West Ouachita in the second round.

The Pelicans hope to jump above .500 tonight as they host the 1-and-6 Los Angeles Lakers in the Smoothie King Center.

Two adults and three children were killed in an overnight fire in New Orleans. The children were ages 6, 11 and 12. New Orleans Fire Chief Timothy McConnell says they have learned there were no working smoke alarms inside the home:

The father of the children escaped but he lost his girlfriend and mother in the blaze.

Three people were killed last night in fiery wreck in Terrebonne Parish involving two vehicles. State Police troooper Evan Harrell says a 19-year-old driver was traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control of the vehicle and entered the southbound lanes of L-A 24…
