Col. Kevin Reeves has been named as the permanent superintendent of Louisiana State Police, after serving as interim since March. Reeves says he remains committed to the public.

Reeves began his career with State Police as a motorcycle trooper in 1990.

According to the Agenda for Children’s KIDS COUNT report, Louisiana is below the national average for uninsured children. KIDS COUNT Coordinator Theresa Falgoust says 96 percent of Louisiana children now have health insurance. She hopes this leads to improvements in child health outcomes.

A suspect has died following an officer involved shooting in St. Martin Parish. Authorities say deputies attempted to serve a warrant on a suspect, when the male subject pulled a gun. Shots were fired at the suspect, and he was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
