Qualifying for the October 24th elections is officially over and the final day went by with no last minute surprises. Former 5th District Congressman Vance McAllister did make good on his promise to qualify for the state Senate District 33 seat, challenging two term incumbent Mike Walsworth. McAllister lost his congressional seat in last fall’s election after a kissing scandal became public.

The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles will not change their policies regarding photo IDs following an incident when a transgender woman from Denham Springs was denied a new ID. State Police Superintendent Col. Mike Edmonson says, after a review, the policy allowing clerks to question individuals about how they represent themselves in order to prevent fraud will remain in place. However, Edmonson says people should look like they do every day on their license and Alexandra Glover will now be able to get a photo ID wearing makeup and a dress.
