The US Attorney in Baton Rouge, Walt Green, has resigned at the request of US Attorney General Jeff Sessions. East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore says it’s typical for a new administration to want a change of leadership, but he still sent a letter to President Trump asking him to keep Green in office.

Baton Rouge police say a teenage boy is dead after he was fatally shot at an apartment complex on his birthday. The victim is identified as 16-year-old Darius Plummer of Baton Rouge. Authorities say a suspect is behind bars in connection with the shooting. It’s been reported that the unnamed man was picked up on I-10 in Lake Charles, and it’s believed he was trying to flee the state.
An LSU study seeks to reduce Louisiana’s childhood obesity rate. Dr. Amanda Staiano with the Pennington Biomedical Research Center says they want to look at every aspect of a child’s life because there’s more to health than just diet and exercise.

Kids who bring toy guns to school could face charges, if a bill filed for the regular session wins approval from the legislature. Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington, who says pretend guns cause panic and chaos in schools.
