The largest public company headquartered in Louisiana, CenturyLink, says its estimating the elimination of 1000 jobs company-wide. Spokeswoman Annmarie Sarter says it’s unclear how the layoffs will impact the company’s corporate headquarters in Monroe…:

CenturyLink committed to create 800 new jobs by next summer and Sarter says they remain on target with that deal.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s office arrests a man they believe beat his estranged wife to death with a baseball bat. They’ve charged 38-year-old David Johnson with first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, violation of a protective order and aggravated burglarly. Cops believe the suspect broke into 45-year-old Monica Johnson’s house and bludgeoned her till she died in the back yard and also beat another person who was trying to help her.

Baton Rouge food blogger and radio host Jay Ducote will be competing in the finale of Food Network Star on August 16 to win his own show on the network. Three finalists made their own pilot for a cooking show in last night’s episode where Ducote prepared fried catfish topped with crawfish etoufee as his showcase dish. Ducote says he has enjoyed the experience and the unique opportunities the show has offered him…:

LSU has sold out of season football tickets for the 12th straight season as 74,350 season tickets have been purchased for the 2015 home schedule. This ties the school record which was set last year when Tiger Stadium was expanded to seat over 100,000. The Tigers open their 11th season under head coach Les Miles on Saturday, Sept. 5 when LSU welcomes McNeese State to Tiger Stadium.
