Around one o’ clock today, hundreds of LSU students gathered on the parade grounds to watch the peak of the Great American Eclipse. The last time the majority of the sun was eclipsed by the moon in the U.S. was 1979. Sean Mahoney, a sophomore majoring in Mechanical Engineering, says he waited for hours in line to receive a pair of protective glasses.

Shreveport Representative Thomas Carmody has no plans to bring back a bill seeking to protect Confederate monuments as the controversial statues are coming down across the South. Carmody says legislation is no longer necessary…

LSU has a new mascot. Dr. Baker, Mike VII’s veterinarian, officially introduced the new live tiger this morning and released him into his newly renovated outdoor habitat. There were a ton of people out there today, and this freshman student says the 11-month-old rescue tiger looks like he’s enjoying his new home…:

The Department of Children and Family Services says child support payments paid through Moneygram have totaled more than 530-thousand dollars.
