Good news for the Tigers and safety John Battle. He’s been given an extra year of eligibility by the NCAA, so he goes into this season as a junior, instead of as a senior. The Florida native appeared in one game in 2014 and he’ll receive a medical hardship for that season.
Louisiana Tech has been picked to win the West in Conference USA in a preseason vote by media members who cover the league. La Tech has won 2 of the last 3 West Division titles. Western Kentucky is picked to repeat as champs in the East.
LSU running back Derius Guice has been named to the Paul Hornung Award Watch List. The award goes to the most Versatile player in college football. Danny Etling is on the Wueffrel Award Watch List and linebacker Arden Key is on the Butkus Award Watch list. Key is also on two other Watch lists.
LSU basketball learned today they’ll play Michigan in the opening round of Maui Classic in Hawaii on November 20th. Tip-off is at 10:30 central time. Coach Will Wade’s old team, VCU, is on the other side of the bracket.

LSU head gymnastics coach DD Breaux has been named the Most Outstanding Coach in Louisiana by the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation. Also the Dean of Southeastern Conference Coaches, Breaux just completed her 40th season in 2017, which was the Tigers most dominant in school history. Breaux says being recognized by people outside of gymnastics means a lot:
