LSU basketball moved up six spots today in the latest A-P Top 25 poll to number 13. No other team in the country made a larger leap. 2009 was the last time the Tigers were ranked in the Top 15. The Bayou Bengals have two home games this week, Wednesday against Florida and then Saturday they’ll host fifth ranked Tennessee. The Vols were previously ranked number one, but were knocked down from the top spot after losing to Kentucky on Saturday.

It was a good opening weekend for the number one LSU baseball team as they earned victories over ULM, Army and Air Force. The Tigers had to come from behind to beat the Warhawks and Black Knights, but scored seven runs in the first inning to defeat the Falcons 17-5 on Sunday.

Jaden Hill was the winning the pitcher yesterday as he allowed just one run on four hits in five innings and struck out eight. Today he was named SEC Freshman of the Week.

The Tigers will look to improve to 4-0 tomorrow, when they host Southeastern Louisiana. The game has been moved up to 4 Pm, because of the threat of storms in the Baton Rouge area on Tuesday night.

Louisiana Tech’s DaQuan Bracey was named Conference USA Player of the Week today. The junior guard from Baltimore had a career-high 28 points in a win over UTEP on Thursday and then scored 23 points on Saturday in a win over Texas San Antonio. Day-Day shot 62-percent from the field in those two games. The Bulldogs are 7-and-7 in league play and they’ll host North Texas on Saturday at 7 PM. Tech is undefeated at home this year.

In college basketball tonight, Grambling has a big game as they host Prairie View A-and-M. The Panthers are 10-and-1 and lead the SWAC. The Tigers are 7-and-5 in league play. Southern is at Mississippi Valley State in a battle of the two worst teams in the league.

Anthony Davis played only five minutes in last night’s All-Star game and scored four points. New Orleans does not return from the All-Star break until Friday when they visit Indiana. It’s unclear if Davis will be uniform or will interim general manager Danny Ferry tell A-D that he can watch the rest of the season from home.
