So far this year, 65 law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. President and CEO Craig Floyd says the leading cause of officer deaths is traffic fatalities.

Louisiana saw one such incident when Ouachita Parish Deputy Justin Beard was killed in a crash responding to a call.
Three candidates have signed up for former-Public Service Commissioner Scott Angelle’s open seat in the October 14 election. One of those is Lenar Whitney, a Houma Republican who served four years in the state House. Whitney says if elected, she’ll lookout for consumers.

Health advisories are in effect for 12 Louisiana beaches because of high levels of bacteria. Dr. Fred Lopez with LSU Health New Orleans says people with weak immune systes are more susceptible to contracting infections from these bacteria.

Lopez also advises people not to get in the water if they have open wounds.
Saints superfan Jarrius Robertson received The Jimmy V Perseverance Award last night at the ESPYS. The 15-year-old has had two liver transplants, but that’s never stopped him from following his favorite team. When accepting the award on ESPN, Robertson thanked all the people who have helped him achieve his dreams.
